Ratcliffe: Comey gave contradictory testimony to Brennan’s about Steele dossier

Former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA head John Brennan both spoke to Congress about their role in the Trump-Russian collusion probe.

Yet according to one representative, neither Comey nor Brennan could keep their stories straight.

The smoking gun

“Brennan says Comey was pushing the Steele Dossier to be included in the intelligence community assessment,” Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) said on an episode of Fox News’ “Sunday Futures.”

“Comey says that it was Brennan that was pushing it,” the Texas Republican explained to host Maria Bartiromo. “They both testified under oath, before Congress and to investigators, to that fact.”

The now-discredited “Steele Dossier” is a collection of opposition research compiled by ex-British spy and noted Trump enemy Christopher Steele. Paid for by the Clinton campaign, it contained salacious and unverified rumors about then-candidate Donald Trump.

“They both can’t be telling the truth,” he concluded. “Those are the things that John Durham is focusing on.”

Durham wants answers

Durham is the US Attorney for Connecticut, and since last spring, he’s been leading an inquiry into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe. In October, Fox News reported that this effort was upgraded in a criminal investigation.

The New York Times revealed last month that Durham has demanded to see Brennan’s emails and call logs during his time at the CIA.

Durham also made a point of issuing a public statement disagreeing with Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s conclusions about the lack of criminality surrounding FISA abuse at the FBI.

“I have the utmost respect for the mission of the Office of Inspector General and the comprehensive work that went into the report prepared by Mr. Horowitz and his staff,” it began. “However, our investigation is not limited to developing information from within component parts of the Justice Department.”

“Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened,” the statement continued.

Brennan has long claimed that the Steele Dossier played no part in the activities that he oversaw. Brennan told the House Intelligence Committee in 2017 that the dossier “wasn’t part of the corpus of intelligence information that we had. It was not in any way used as a basis for the Intelligence Community assessment that was done.”
