When it comes to President Donald Trump’s impeachment, the numbers don’t lie.
Writing for Townhall, Michael Glassner, the Trump 2020 campaign’s chief operating officer, revealed that Democrats’ “sham” impeachment effort isn’t doing them any favors in the eyes of the American public. According to Glassner, recent polls show that support for President Trump is on the rise, while support for his impeachment is falling fast.
“If the Democrat establishment thought that their chances of ousting President Trump were slim a few months ago, the latest polls prove that their obstructionist agenda is utterly hopeless,” Glassner wrote in an op-ed published Saturday. “[O]ther than a contingent of radical leftists, Americans have officially lost any belief in the Democrats’ partisan impeachment sham.”
Trump comes out on top
Glassner didn’t pull any punches when he slammed “the Democrat Party’s dirty tricks” in his weekend column. But he’s not the only one who isn’t a fan of the effort to oust President Trump.
Glassner cites a Dec. 18 survey from Gallup showing that “public support for impeachment has…dropped to 46[%], down six percentage points since the start of the impeachment inquiry,” he writes.
“But that’s not the only bad news for the impeachment-crazed Democrats,” Glassner adds. “[T]he same poll also found that 51[%] of Americans oppose impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office, a [5%] increase during the same time period.”
And it doesn’t stop there. Glassner writes:
Likewise, Gallup found that President Trump’s approval rating has increased by six percentage points since the launch of the impeachment probe in the fall and is now at 45[%].
With numbers like these, it’s no surprise that the president was celebrating on Christmas Eve. “All I know is my poll numbers are the highest they’ve ever been,” Trump told reporters from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, according to RealClearPolitics.
2019: A bad year for Dems
Glassner went on in his op-ed to conclude that 2019 “has not been a good year for the Democrats.”
“The Democrat Party’s failure to spearhead a legitimate impeachment process was evident from the very start of this charade,” he wrote. “The Democrats never had enough evidence to impeach President Trump in the first place, which is exactly why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] avoided impeachment like the plague until September.”
After unilaterally launching an impeachment inquiry, Pelosi was able to pass two articles of impeachment through the House one week before Christmas, according to the Wall Street Journal. But now, Glassner writes, “the Democrats are stuck in limbo.”
Glassner surmised that Dems feel “forced to continue stalling on impeachment by postponing the Senate vote” — but at this point, there’s not much they can do to flip things back to their side. “Their partisan impeachment sham is dead on arrival in the minds of American voters,” Glassner concludes, “and President Trump is all the stronger for it heading into 2020.”
