Adam Schiff cranks up the drama as pundits speculate impeachment hearings could boost his career

While hearings conducted in the House Intelligence Committee may have found no definitive wrongdoing on the part of President Donald Trump, they have proven that committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) is an enthusiastic performer.

Now, some are suggesting that Schiff’s drama could bode well for his political future, The Hill reports.

Schiff cranks up the drama

As he concluded his arguments a week and a half ago, Schiff played up his emotions. According to The Hill, Schiff’s “eyes became moist and his bottom lip quivered” when he mentioned the late Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), the former Oversight and Reform Committee chairman who died suddenly in October.

But his theatrics didn’t stop there. Near the beginning of his statement, Schiff raised his voice when he claimed that Republicans have continued to “cower” and remain “silent” when Trump expresses distrust of U.S. intelligence agencies.

“We all remember that debacle in Helsinki when the president stood next to Vladimir Putin and questioned his own intelligence agencies. I wish I had heard just some of the righteous indignation we heard in the committee today, when the president questioned that fundamental conclusion of our intelligence agencies, but of course they were silent,” Schiff snapped.

“Schiff Show” theatrics

What’s more, the California Democrat also resorted to physical gestures.

“In my view, there is nothing more dangerous than an unethical president who believes they are above the law,” Schiff declared, dramatically waving his finger in the air. “And I would just say to people watching here at home and around the world, in the words of my great colleague, we are better than that.”

Schiff went on to try and make a comparison to Watergate, insisting that “what we see here is far more serious than a third-rate burglary of the Democratic headquarters” and calling the allegations against Trump “beyond anything that [former President Richard] Nixon did.”

Dems love the drama

To some, Schiff’s record could qualify him for the Oval Office.

“When we look at the characteristics of what we want to see in a president, it is somebody who is not going to lose composure because he’s been poked. And we’re seeing that on display from Adam Schiff every single day,” an unnamed California Democrat told The Hill.

Others were willing to go on the record with their praise. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) praised Schiff for being “steady, balanced, objective, clear about the Constitution, and very focused,” and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) called Schiff “a brilliant mind” and “a thoughtful leader.”

“I found myself looking to him for counsel and guidance, and I’ve even taken some cues from his style,” Carson added.

Is this really who Democrats are taking their cues from?
