After holding off the more radical members of her party for months, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) has finally given in to demands for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. And according to Trump, Pelosi has gotten so wrapped up in the matter that she’s ignoring the needs of her constituents back home.
“I think Nancy Pelosi has lost her mind,” Trump told reporters on Sunday, according to the New York Post, “and I think frankly that she should go back home to San Francisco.”
Republican unity
Trump’s remarks came on the White House’s South Lawn, where the president spoke with reporters after returning from a weekend in New York. And as expected, it didn’t take long for someone to ask about the House resolution that Democrats passed last week to officially launch their impeachment inquiry.
In response, Trump offered praise to congressional Republicans, who he said are as unified as ever.
“I think that the House Republicans and the Senate Republicans have been wonderful,” Trump said. “I don’t think there’s ever been unity like we have right now.”
The president went on to say that while the GOP has put up a united front against what he called “the impeachment scam,” the Democrats aren’t similarly on the same page. Two Democrats voted with all House Republicans on Thursday against the resolution authorizing the inquiry, which passed anyway, according to The New York Times.
Democrat division
But while Pelosi focuses on rallying the stragglers in her caucus behind impeachment, she’s ignoring the problems her constituents are facing back home, according to Trump.
“Her district is going to hell, with homeless that they’re not taking care of, with needles all over the streets, with tents, with people, with sanitation [problems], with horrible things being washed into the ocean,” Trump said Sunday. “I think Nancy Pelosi, her district has probably gone down more than any district proportionately in the United States.”
Unfortunately, the House speaker doesn’t seem to mind.
“All she thinks about is impeachment,” Trump lamented. “But she doesn’t want to impeach. You know who wants to impeach? The people who run the party, the radical left.”
Indeed, impeachment has been the talk of Washington since President Trump first took office in January 2017. Democrats, many of whom remain loyal to Hillary Clinton, have wanted to remove Trump from his post since Day 1 — and it looks like Pelosi is finally letting them try.
The only question now is: will their efforts to take down President Trump cost Democrats the White House in 2020? Only time will tell.
