Poll shows Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden neck-and-neck in hypothetical primary matchup

If Hillary Clinton were to jump into the 2020 race, odds are she wouldn’t be struggling for support.

According to the Washington Examiner, a new poll has found that in a hypothetical matchup, Clinton would be neck-and-neck with current Democratic primary frontrunner Joe Biden.

Biden supporters jump ship

The poll, which was conducted by Harvard Harris from Oct. 29–31, found that if Clinton stays out of the race for the Democrats’ nomination, Biden can expect to receive the support of 33% of primary voters. But if Clinton enters the fray, the numbers change.

According to the Examiner, “nearly half of [Biden’s] supporters would jump ship to back Clinton if she were to enter the race.”

With both of them on the ballot, Biden would receive 19% of the vote, the poll found, while the former secretary of State would pull in 18%.

Elizabeth Warren (MA), another top contender in the Democrats’ 2020 primary, saw 13% support in the same poll. Fellow Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) received 12%.

“Don’t tempt me”

For her part, Clinton has spurred speculation that she may jump into the 2020 race with a host of recent media appearances to promote her new book, The Book of Gutsy Women, which she co-wrote with her daughter Chelsea.

According to the Examiner, the former secretary of State told a CBS reporter last month that “maybe there does need to be a rematch” between her and Trump. “I mean obviously I can beat him again,” she added, never accepting her 2016 loss.

Additionally, after the president suggested in an early October tweet that “Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race,” the former first lady told Trump not to tempt her.

But at the end of the day, if Clinton really thought she could win, she would enter the race. Why else would she opt to sit this one out?

Still, one thing is for certain: if Clinton were to jump in the fray, we’d see President Trump walking around with a huge smile on his face as he prepared for another four years in the Oval Office.
