Pundit warns of Adam Schiff’s role in impeachment inquiry

This week, the House passed a resolution officially authorizing their impeachment inquiry in a vote that went largely along party lines, a break from the historically bipartisan nature of such proceedings, according to NPR. But one pundit says that’s not the only problem with the Democrats’ impeachment efforts the American public should be concerned about.

In a recent op-ed for Fox News, National Review‘s Andrew McCarthy highlighted the dangers of keeping the impeachment inquiry in the hands of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), who has thus far been less than transparent about his efforts to oust President Donald Trump from office.

Impeachment issues

McCarthy began by noting the unusual manner in which the impeachment inquiry began. Indeed, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said he’d been pursuing impeachment for several months in his panel, and closed-door hearings have been going on in the Intelligence Committee for the last several weeks.

Still, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) only this week introduced a resolution to “authorize” such proceedings. The resolution, which was passed Thursday, further solidified what she’d done in late September, when she unilaterally declared that the House was opening an impeachment inquiry after reports emerged of a now-infamous whistleblower complaint against President Trump, according to McCarthy.

“Back when [the inquiry] began, Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrested control of it from [Nadler], placing the matter in the hands of Schiff, her protégé on the Intelligence Committee on which she used to serve.”

According to McCarthy, “that is irregular, to say the least.”

“The Intelligence Committee specializes in closed proceedings involving highly classified matters. The subject matter of the impeachment inquiry, to the contrary, is not highly classified,” McCarthy wrote.

He went on: “The main details have been known for weeks, ever since the largely unclassified ‘whistleblower complaint’ was followed by the president’s publication of the summary transcript of his July 25 phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.”

Sneaky Schiff

But that’s not all. McCarthy reports that the recently passed resolution in the House “also promises that Intelligence Committee proceedings will now be ‘open and transparent.” But, he writes, what about everything that’s happened behind closed doors so far?

“Obviously, that raises questions about the secret proceedings Chairman Schiff has been conducting for weeks,” McCarthy wrote. “If we’re being assured that impeachment will be a transparent process, then why haven’t the transcripts of all the prior testimony been released?”

The National Review senior fellow maintained that impeachment should be a public process that “should not be playing out behind closed doors, with the American people limited to skewed information in the form of selective leaking to Trump-hostile media allies.” And it’s hard not to agree.

Democrats have orchestrated this entire impeachment inquiry to allow them to manipulate everything to fit their narrative. This is the Russia collusion hoax all over again — and it may be even worse.
