Elizabeth Warren criticizes Democrats for failing to impeach Trump: ‘Congress failed to act’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) scolded Congress and Democratic leadership like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) on Saturday for their failure to impeach President Donald Trump.

“Congress failed to act, and now Donald Trump has shown that he believes he is above the law,” the 2020 hopeful insisted at an event in Des Moines, Iowa, according to C-SPAN. “It is time for us to call out this illegal behavior and start impeachment proceedings right now.”

“No one is above the law”

Warren was speaking at the Polk County Democrats Steak Fry when she asserted frankly: “No one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.”

The Massachusetts senator went on to cite special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which has often been viewed by Democrats as an excuse to pursue impeachment. Still, Democrat leaders like Nancy Pelosi have remained hesitant, in part because the public largely opposes impeaching Trump.

But that didn’t stop Warren. “I read all 448 pages [of Mueller’s report], and when I got to the end, I called for the impeachment of Donald Trump,” Warren told Iowa Democrats on Saturday. Take a look at a clip of her talk, courtesy of Reuters:

Warren also alleged over the weekend that President Trump has “solicited another foreign government to attack our election system,” a remark that likely points to reports that accuse the president of pressuring the Ukranian government to investigate alleged wrongdoing by 2020 hopeful Joe Biden’s son.

Fox News reports that “the proposed investigation involves Hunter Biden’s involvement with a controversial Ukrainian natural gas company while then-Vice President Biden was overseeing America’s Ukraine policy.”

Hunter Biden was reportedly working with the company, called Burisma, from 2014 until April 2019, shortly after his father announced his bid for the White House. According to the story, Joe Biden had, as vice president, threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loans if Ukraine did not fire a corrupt prosecutor who was investigating the man in charge of Burisma.

Critics say that Trump wants Ukraine to investigate the situation in an attempt to smear Joe Biden amid his 2020 campaign, according to NBC News. But for his part, Trump has denied claims that he did anything wrong in his conversation with Ukraine’s leader, which came in July.

Indeed, it seems Dems like Warren don’t know the full story — nor do they want to. All they know is they want President Trump out of office, and they’re willing to say — and do — whatever it takes to make that happen.

Will that effort include impeachment? Only time will tell.
