Democrats call for Kavanaugh’s impeachment amid revived reports of sexual misconduct

Brett Kavanaugh is back in the news this week after The New York Times released a bombshell report on Sunday launching fresh allegations of sexual misconduct against the now-Supreme Court justice. And the Democrats vying for the White House couldn’t help but chime in.

The likes of Kamala Harris and Beto O’Rourke are now calling for Kavanaugh to be impeached, Breitbart reports.

Report revives Kavanaugh allegations

The accusations first surfaced in the book, The Education of Brett Kavanaugh, which is set to be released on Tuesday.

Written by reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, the book includes a story from non-profit CEO and long-time Democrat Max Stier, a former classmate of Kavanaugh’s at Yale who alleges that he “saw Mr. Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student.”

But shortly the story was published, the Times added an update, according to Fox News. The editor’s note read:

An earlier version of this article, which was adapted from a forthcoming book, did not include one element of the book’s account regarding an assertion by a Yale classmate that friends of Brett Kavanaugh pushed his penis into the hand of a female student at a drunken dorm party. The book reports that the female student declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident. That information has been added to the article.

Dems call for impeachment

Despite the update, Democrats are still demanding Kavanaugh’s removal. And for her part, Sen. Harris (CA) didn’t pull any punches.

“I sat through those hearings,” Harris tweeted. “Brett Kavanaugh lied to the U.S. Senate and most importantly to the American people. He was put on the Court through a sham process and his place on the Court is an insult to the pursuit of truth and justice. He must be impeached.”

And she wasn’t the only one to take to Twitter.

“It’s more clear than ever that Brett Kavanaugh lied under oath. He should be impeached,” fellow 2020 hopeful Julián Castro tweeted. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) also chimed in, writing:

Last year the Kavanaugh nomination was rammed through the Senate without a thorough examination of the allegations against him. Confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing. Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached.

Not to be left out, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke contended that Kavanaugh “lied under oath” and “should be impeached,” while New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker argued that “Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation should have never happened in the first place.”

Republicans stand their ground

For their part, Republicans largely haven’t wavered in their support of Kavanaugh. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell condemned any attempt to remove the associate justice, and President Donald Trump did the same.
