President Donald Trump is not happy about a rumor going around concerning his relationship with his youngest daughter, Tiffany Trump.
“It’s just absolutely false,” he told reporters on Friday night, according to the New York Post. “She’s a wonderful person and she studies so hard. She’s a great student. She’s a great person. Tiffany is great. I love Tiffany.”
“Absolutely false”
President Trump took time to rebut the rumors when speaking with reporters at the White House on Friday, just prior to leaving for a nice country retreat at Camp David.
The president said that he has tried to call his daughter, but that thus far they have been unable to get in touch. “She’s going to be calling me back as soon as we get to Camp David,” he said.
Tiffany, 25, is Trump’s only child with his second wife, Marla Maples. She keeps a lower profile than her older siblings and has spent a good portion of her life on the west coast. She is in her second year of law school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
The source
The rumor appears to have been started by Madeleine Westerhout, President Trump’s now-ex-personal assistant.
According to a Friday report from Politico, Westerhout, during an “off-the-record” dinner conversation with a small group of reporters, claimed that that Trump could not pick Tiffany out of a crowd. She also reportedly said that “the president did not like being in pictures with Tiffany because he perceived her as overweight.”
Westerhout reportedly boasted that she had a better relationship with Trump than either Tiffany or Ivanka Trump.
Not surprisingly, Trump’s assistant found herself out of a job on Thursday.
Backstory
The president told reporters that Westerhout called him about the incident. “She called me,” he said. “She was very upset. She was very down. She said she was drinking a little bit, and she was with reporters and everything she said was off the record.”
The president added that the statements made by Westerhout were “hurtful to some people.” He concluded by saying that the entire situation was “unfortunate.”
In a statement on Twitter on Saturday, Trump spoke positively of Westerhout, calling her a “very good person” and saying that he forgave her.
While Madeleine Westerhout has a fully enforceable confidentiality agreement, she is a very good person and I don’t think there would ever be reason to use it. She called me yesterday to apologize, had a bad night. I fully understood and forgave her! I love Tiffany, doing great!
