Secret Service agents removed a protester from a Wednesday rally for President Donald Trump in North Carolina after he shouted and held up a sign depicting Trump together with Jeffrey Epstein that bore the words “child rapist,” according to the Daily Mail.
The sold-out crowd of 8,000 booed the man as he shouted, then cheered when agents escorted him out of the venue. The sign he waved featured an old photo of Trump with Epstein.
Epstein and Trump were in the same social circle 15 years ago, but Trump ultimately cut ties with Epstein after an incident in which the since-convicted pedophile was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl.
“He goes home now to mommy and he gets reprimanded, and that’s the end,” Trump joked after the disruptive man was removed from the rally. “Sorry mom, didn’t mean to embarrass you mom,” Trump imagined the protester saying.
Trump addresses the “squad”
During the rally, Trump made his first public comments concerning recent tweets in which he told far-left House members they could “go back” to their native countries if they didn’t like America.
“I think in some cases they hate our country,” Trump said about Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MN), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA). Trump also called the four congresswomen un-American and said they were the face of the Democrat party that would ruin the country if they manage to have their policies enacted.
The four have called themselves the “squad” and have labeled Trump a racist for these most recent remarks about them.
Trump accused the group of “spewing some of the most vile, hateful and disgusting things ever said by a politician” prior to saying that they could leave the U.S. if they hated the country and its people.
When the president mentioned Ilhan Omar by name, the crowd responded by shouting “send her back!” Omar was born in Somalia, while the other three “squad” members were born in America.
No regrets
Before leaving Washington for the rally, Trump said he didn’t regret the tweets, which were formally condemned on the House floor as racist. Trump said to reporters that he thinks he’s “winning the political argument by a lot.”
“If people want to leave our country, they can. If they don’t want to love our country, if they don’t want to fight for our country, they can,” Trump said. “I’ll never change on that.”
Interestingly, a focus group consisting of women interviewed by CNN on Tuesday refused to characterize Trump’s comments about the “squad” as racist and held firm that their support for the president has not wavered.
