Meghan McCain wants George Conway to ‘have a conversation’ with wife Kellyanne about Trump

Meghan McCain gave some unsolicited marriage counseling to Trump critic George Conway, husband of Trump defender Kellyanne Conway.

The View co-host advised Mr. Conway to chastise his wife after Kellyanne asked a reporter about his ethnicity, The Washington Examiner reports. McCain told Conway, who has accused Trump of being a racist, to “start at home” and “take it further than just Twitter.”

Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday that she “totally disagrees” with her husband that Trump is a racist after the president told four Democratic congresswomen to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”

McCain to George Conway: “Start at home”

In so many words, McCain told George Conway to get his spouse in line after the White House adviser, while defending Trump amid the “go home” tweet furor, asked a reporter what his ethnicity is. The View hosts played a clip of Kellyanne asking the question and criticized her.

“She’s having a meltdown, poor thing. She’s a mess,” co-host Joy Behar said. McCain chimed in: “I don’t really care because it’s so tone-deaf, and especially given the comments the president said on Twitter.”

However, McCain seemed to take issue with more than Kellyanne’s one question. Things took a strange turn as McCain appeared to advise Mr. Conway to “have a conversation” with his wife about her support for the president.

“Her husband is one of the most adamant outspoken people, especially against what he interpreted about the president’s tweets being racist. My message to George Conway is, start at home, okay? If me and my husband were together — no, I’m sick of it,” McCain said, according to Breitbart. “He gets on his high horse on Twitter all the time. If I felt like my husband were getting on TV and saying racist comments and things like this, and I was so outraged, we would be having a conversation.”

She went on: “I’m stopping taking him seriously because I just think if  it were someone I was super close to that was out doing this, I would take it further than just Twitter.”

Kellyanne fires back

George Conway dashed off a Washington Post op-ed this week titled, “Trump is a racist” amid the “go back” furor. Kellyanne addressed the differences with her husband to Fox on Tuesday, saying that she “totally disagrees.”

“Respectfully, I’m not going to run around pointing out everybody’s disagreements with the people in their lives,” she said. “I sure could. I can point out people’s disagreements with their former spouses, their current spouses and partners, their future spouses and partners, but I won’t do that, and I would caution all those particular people who are going to ask me at the gaggle now not to do that.”

McCain, who seems to be carrying the torch of her late father by criticizing the president and fellow Republicans whenever possible, has made it clear that she is like, so done with Trump’s tweets. The View host criticized Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a close friend and ally of her father John McCain, for defending the president.

“Whatever is happening to Lindsey, this is not the person I used to know,” she said, according to The Hill.

Family counseling from Meghan

On Thursday, Meghan again weighed in on the controversy after Trump supporters at a North Carolina rally Wednesday broke into chants of “send her back” after Trump attacked Ilhan Omar (D-MN), one of the targets of his “go back” tweets. McCain’s role expanded from marriage counselor to family counselor as she rebuked Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner for staying silent, Fox News reported.

“The Trump administration — all of you — Ivanka, Jared, because you’re around my age range, where are you in this?” she asked. McCain also complained that events like the “send her back” chants took away their right to criticize Omar’s Israel policy.

“You’re taking away my agency to criticize her policy because you’re making this so much about race, xenophobia, racism,” she said.
