Ilhan Omar’s troubling background includes 2013 trespassing arrest

Reports indicate that Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was arrested in 2013 for “Trespassing and Refusing to Leave a Hotel Upon Lawful Demand” at the Minneapolis property where the former president of Somalia was staying as a guest during a visit to the U.S.

Omar initially refused to leave the Hotel Ivy and secretly re-entered after having previously been escorted out by police. She was reportedly defiant and belligerent when police told her to vacate the premises.

The now-congresswoman was ultimately placed under arrest and taken to the Hennepin County Jail “to prevent further criminal conduct,” according to the police report detailing the incident. Her arrest occurred on January 18, 2013, just after former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended an event at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

A large number of Somalis followed the leader’s convoy to the hotel and had to be dispersed by police after hotel management became alarmed by the size of the crowds.

Omar’s defiance

The police report revealed that Omar shouted “Don’t put your hands on me!” when officers attempted to remove her from the hotel. After she re-entered the property, she refused to stand up and be arrested, requiring officers to handcuff her in a sitting position.

Omar also verbally argued with police officers throughout the entire incident, according to the official report.

This run-in with law enforcement occurred before Omar entered public office in 2016. She did, however, work as the campaign manager for Andrew Johnson’s city council run in 2013, eventually becoming his senior policy aide.

Omar’s behavior shows a lack of respect for authorities that fits with other information recently discovered about her past. Evidence is mounting that she may have married her own brother in order to fraudulently secure immigration benefits to which he would not otherwise have been entitled.

Troubling pattern

Rep. Omar also likely ran afoul of tax laws by filing jointly with a man to whom she was not legally married in 2014 and 2015. She didn’t legally divorce Ahmed Nur Said Elmi until 2017 but filed joint returns with Ahmed Hirsi, the man with whom she had her three children. She later married Hirsi after finally divorcing Elmi.

There are also new allegations that Omar, along with several other family members, may have lied in order to enter the U.S. as refugees. It appears that her family name was originally Elmi, but that the Omar family permitted the future congresswoman and others to appropriate their name as a means to join in on its grant of asylum by virtue of the now-discontinued Refugee Family Reunification Program.

If these claims are true, Omar could face serious charges and jail time. Even if no criminal activity can be proven, Omar at the very least misrepresented herself to Minnesota voters by referring to Hirsi as her spouse on her campaign website in 2016 when she was in fact still married to Elmi.

It’s hard to believe that Omar was ever elected, given all of these proven or suspected secrets and deceptions, but then again, it is not as if the mainstream media went to any great lengths to investigate the glaring inconsistencies in her personal narrative.
