Ilhan Omar claims Trump ‘wants every black/brown person deported’

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar accused President Donald Trump of wanting to deport all minorities from the United States. Rep. Omar (D-MN) also claimed that Trump wants to ban all Muslims from entering the country, pointing to his immigration policies as proof of his “racist” motives.

“You all should end this charade and accept that this racist president wants every black/brown person deported and Muslims banned,” Omar tweeted on Saturday. “His immigration policies say this much!” she added.

War of words

Omar’s tweet comes amid a feud between Trump and members of the so-called “squad,” which includes Democratic Reps. Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA). The controversy erupted earlier this month when Trump suggested that the four minority lawmakers “go back” to their countries of origin if they weren’t happy with America. Only Omar, who came to America as a refugee from Somalia, was born outside the United States.

In her tweet Saturday, Omar linked to a Vice News video that criticized Trump for urging the “squad” and their sympathizers to either “love” or “leave” the United States. Trump and his supporters have said that the “squad” espouses anti-American and anti-Semitic views, and that the left’s allegations of racism are a political ploy to silence legitimate criticism of their rhetoric and policies.

While Omar claims that Trump’s immigration policies prove that he’s a racist, Omar’s own far-left immigration views have come under heavy scrutiny. The Democrat has called for tax-payer funded abortions for illegal immigrants, health care for illegal immigrants, and an end to all deportations. Omar and other “squad” members advised illegal immigrants on how to avoid ICE raids earlier this month, and Ocasio-Cortez has come under fire for comparing immigrant detention centers to Nazi concentration camps.

Some “squad” members have also made questionable comments on race, despite their accusations of racism towards the president. In particular, Omar and Tlaib have been criticized for making anti-Semitic comments. Omar came under fire earlier this year when she suggested that American politicians loyal to Israel have been bought off and have an “allegiance to a foreign country,” which critics said played off anti-Semitic clichés of double loyalty.

Trump vs. Omar

Trump has continued to double down on his criticism of Omar and the “squad” all week, tweeting Sunday that the women are not “capable” of loving their country. He demanded an apology for the “hateful” things they have said about the United States and Israel.

Omar accused Trump on Tuesday of being filled with “inherent racism that has always been part of him” and said that “he always takes an opportunity to others to vilify them and destroy their existence and ability to access our justice system.”

Despite Omar’s anti-Semitic and anti-American remarks, she has insisted that her patriotism is beyond question and that all criticism directed her way is motivated by racism. Omar recently responded to claims that she is anti-American by saying that she is “probably [loves] this country more than anyone that is naturally born.”

But on Thursday, Omar appeared to slip up when she referred to Somalia as “my country” before quickly correcting herself. “We have always been about creating a more perfect union, an inclusive one. One that is not just tolerant, but accepting. And so since the first day this president introduced the Muslim ban knowing my coun—the country I came from was on that and that my country now was on the track of implementing fascist laws, I knew that I had to speak up,” Omar said.

With Democrats like this, who needs Republicans to oppose them?
