Citing Trump’s ‘racism,’ retired Texas judge leaves GOP

Former Texas judge Elsa Alcala said on her Facebook page Monday that she is leaving the Republican Party over the “racism” of President Donald Trump, The Hill reports.

“It has taken me years to say this publicly but here I go. President Trump is the worst president in the history of this country,” Alcala declared in a Facebook post. “Even accepting that Trump has had some successes — and I believe these are few — at his core, his ideology is racism. To me, nothing positive about him could absolve him of his rotten core.”

Alcala said later in a local newspaper interview that Trump’s recent tweets telling some members of Congress to go back to their countries of origin led to her belief that Trump is working to exclude “people who look like me.”

“The Republican Party left me”

Alcala cited widespread support for Trump among state legislators as part of her reason for rejecting the entire GOP because of one person.

“The current Republican Party supports Trump, so I cannot support that party in Texas or nationally,” she wrote in her Facebook post. “The past Republican administrations were not Trump-like — they wanted an inclusive party — and I appreciate their past support of me, but that is no more.

“Trump speaks about brown people like me as lesser beings,” the Latina judge continued. “It’s cliche to say, but the Republican Party left me.”

Alcala went on to say that any “viable” Democrat presidential candidate would be preferable to Trump in her mind. She did not elaborate on which of the nearly 30 candidates currently in the race she considers “viable.”

Alcala retired from the Court of Criminal Appeals in 2011.

Anti-Trumpers Unite

The Democrat-run House and countless media commentators have condemned Trump’s recent comments as racist because they targeted women of color in Congress. But maybe they are just purposely missing his point.

Trump loves America, and he thinks people who live in this great country should recognize its greatness. After a year-and-a-half of far-left House members constantly attack the country he loves, he decided to address it.

A lot of people have a problem with the way Trump phrased his comments. But that narrative fits right into who they already think Trump is.

It remains to be seen whether Trump’s real point — that no one is forcing people who say they think America is horrible to live here — will resonate with more people than the more dubious claims from Alcala and others that he is “racist.”
