HUD secretary Dr. Ben Carson defends the unborn, says abortion is ‘barbaric’

There’s no question where famed former neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson stands on abortion.

Carson, who now serves as secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department in the Trump administration, didn’t mince words when he described abortion as a “barbaric” procedure.

“Incredible” life

Carson’s comments came during a small panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference in March. Asked for his opinion, based on medical science, when life began, Carson said that despite all of our knowledge and technological advancements, humans still lacked the scientific capability to create a living human life out of nothing. “But God has orchestrated an incredible situation where the egg and the sperm come together and within a matter of 10 to 12 weeks, you can see the little fingers and the little toes and the little nose and the face,” he said.

“The heart is starting to beat. It’s absolutely amazing. And then it goes on to develop very rapidly from there, the brain, hundreds of thousands of neurons, every single day, it develops very rapidly,” he continued.

“And I’ve had the privilege to operate on little babies that were 25, 26, 27, 28 weeks gestation, and I can guarantee you that they can feel, they can react. And you have to give them anesthesia if you’re going to cut them, believe me. But they can also respond to comfort and to warmth,” Carson said.

“And for someone to say that’s just a meaningless bunch of cells, honestly, is just totally ignorant,” he added.

“Barbaric” abortion

Carson shared how he’d operated on babies still inside the womb and seen them grow up to become “intelligent, self-sustaining, beautiful people.”

The famous doctor proceeded to describe in rather graphic detail how a typical abortion procedure was performed. “I mean, it’s barbaric,” he said. “The baby could live outside the womb, but some people feel that it is OK to murder that baby.”

“The level of barbarism that requires, I, quite frankly, don’t know people can do it,” he said, and added how even though efforts were made to shield the mothers from seeing what occurs, he nevertheless wondered how many women were “psychologically damaged” by the event and how they have to live with that choice for the rest of their lives.

Later in the discussion, Carson noted how some of his “favorite” patients had been those with disabilities that some would deem “unworthy” of life.

Left goes extreme on abortion

He further shared how he’d had a discussion with a pro-choice friend in the American Civil Liberties Union who’d admitted to him in private — though he would refuse to say so in public — how he believed a woman had a right to kill a baby up until the moment it was born.

“Now they are willing to say it in public,” Carson said of the pro-abortion left. “That’s how far the pendulum has swung, and it’s gonna be up to us people with morals and values to stand up to it because we cannot let this happen in our society.”
