George Conway said in a Washington Post op-ed Saturday that the new rape allegation against President Donald Trump was “more credible” than Juanita Broaddrick’s accusation that Bill Clinton raped her in a hotel room in 1978. Conway is a lawyer and the husband of White House Counsel Kellyanne Conway.
In the op-ed, Conway said it would be hypocritical for Republicans who believed Broaddrick’s story to dismiss that of E. Jean Carroll, who claimed in her new book that Trump raped her in “1995 or 96” in a retail store dressing room.
Conway’s crusade
The two allegations of sexual assault are remarkably similar, Conway asserted. Both women said they told friends about the incident, but didn’t report it to police. Both came out decades later to speak about it publicly. Both men denied that any rape occurred.
Conway claimed that because Broaddrick denied that Clinton assaulted her numerous times before coming out publicly with the accusations and because of the number of historical claims already made against Trump, Carroll’s accusations were actually “more credible” than Broaddrick’s.
The op-ed also emphasized that Trump called Broaddrick “courageous” and used her accusation and others during his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump pointed out that Hillary Clinton had called Broaddrick a liar and supported her husband despite numerous accusations of sexual misconduct against him, including Broaddrick’s.
Trump’s claim that he “never met” Carroll has also been disproven by a photo that showed him and then-wife Ivanka talking to her and her husband, Conway stated as further evidence that her claims may indeed be credible.
There’s no way to know what inspired Conway to come out against Trump so strongly. Well, other than the fact that he’s been attacking Trump constantly since he became President. Just on Friday, Conway tweeted for Trump to resign after he called off airstrikes against Iran.
Resign. If you didn’t know this until it was almost too late, you’re even more of an idiot than people think you are. Do the country and the world a favor. Go back to real estate, where the worst you can do is kill banks. https://t.co/k7z9KW4Elt

Let’s be fair
Media outlets like the Washington Post, however, will not bother to mention that Conway has issued hundreds of tweets attacking the president just in the last week and obviously has great animus toward him.
Despite the reasons Conway offers about why he believes Carroll (or at least thinks she could be credible), he, like every other Trump accuser, has no actual evidence that anything did occur.
We all know Trump is not pure as the wind-driven snow. He has said awful things, and he may have done some as well. It only makes sense. Many powerful men get carried away with their own power and act in ways they should not.
What is Conway suggesting here? That Trump be drummed out of office due to a story that has no evidence to corroborate it? Is that what happened to Bill Clinton after Broaddrick’s accusation?
No. Nothing happened, because she couldn’t prove her story.
Republicans believed her, because people want to believe bad things about people they don’t like or agree with politically.
In much the same way, Democrats (and Conway) are going to believe Carroll, because they hate Trump and want to believe every bad thing about him.
As far as the truth, the likelihood is that we will never truly know what happened in either case.
