Joe Biden brags about recruiting women from ‘the hood’ to learn to code

Former Vice President Joe Biden has developed a reputation for making women uncomfortable in his presence, but usually, his wandering hands are the culprit. Now, it’s the presidential hopeful’s tongue that has him in hot water.

While kicking off his 2020 campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa, Biden bragged about going into “the hood” to recruit “women of color” to do computer coding. The entire cringe-worthy moment was caught on camera.

In the “hood”

Lecturing his Midwestern audience on the importance of quality education for U.S. workers, Biden referenced a trip to Detroit, where he witnessed firsthand how local businesses invested in the local economy by teaching coding and other technical skills.

“Through a program we had through community colleges, we can teach people how to code,” Biden said. “They went out, literally into the hood, and they found, turns out, 54 [people], they happened to be all women, the vast majority were women of color, no more than a high school degree, aged 25-54, and a third of them only had GEDs.” Watch below:

Racially-charged language

Nervous laughter rippled through the crowd, and according to the Washington Examiner, one person even shouted “yikes,” before ultimately cheering for the former Delaware senator.

Identity-driven progressives often accuse privileged people who use terms like “hood,” “ghetto,” and “thug” of employing racially-charged language. Even words like “inner city” have been deemed inappropriate by the left’s PC police.

“On the surface, [inner city] seems like a casual reference to one type of community, similar to urban, suburban or rural,” explained Derrick Clifton of Everyday Feminism. “But beneath the niceties, a typical discussion about people from the ‘inner city’ is actually coded language for African-Americans.”

Tone-deaf

This was by no means Mr. Biden’s first awkward moment when it comes to his tone-deaf treatment of minorities and women. “Uncle Joe” allegedly considered selecting as his running mate failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams — a woman of color — to bolster his appeal among black voters.

The problem? He didn’t bother to consult Ms. Abrams on the matter. “Isn’t that just like a white man to assume that he could jump on the back of a black woman, who would be gracious enough to carry him to victory, without even consulting her?” wrote The Root senior editor Stephen Crockett.

“I guess Biden left his feelings about black women having agency, and a voice, and cachet with the voters in the same drawer where he left Anita’s Hill number,” Crockett added.

While campaigning with then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2007, Biden described his running mate as “the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” As a senator, Biden voted against a federal busing program designed to desegregate schools, calling it “a rejection of the whole movement of black pride.”

The Des Moines rally was only the first stop for Biden in a two-day, four-event tour of Iowa. If the former vice president keeps it up, it’s going to be a long road to the primaries.
