Trey Gowdy warns of Eric Swalwell presidency: That should ‘scare the ever-living hell out of you’

Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy has officially warned the public about the potential dangers of one 2020 hopeful.

“President Eric Swalwell, that ought to scare the ever-living hell out of you,” Gowdy said of the Democratic congressman from California, who has spent the better part of the last two years perpetuating the false claim that President Donald Trump has ties to the Kremlin.

Trump-Russia Hoax

Gowdy’s remark came during a Friday appearance on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum. The former congressman was asked to respond to a video clip from MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber in which Swalwell accuses Donald Trump of “acting on Russia’s behalf.”

“Here’s what we know,” Swalwell told Melber on Wednesday. “The Russians helped Donald Trump.”

Melber agreed, but asked Swalwell to clarify whether he is “maintaining that [Trump] is effectively a ‘Russian asset.'”

“No,” Swalwell admitted. “I think he acts on Russia’s behalf and I challenge him to show me otherwise.”

Gowdy Fights Back

It was that last remark that left Gowdy reeling.

“[Swalwell’s] last sentence is exactly the difference between a prosecutor and a politician,” Gowdy told MacCallum. “Prosecutors prove that you did something, politicians make you prove you did not.”

In addition to being a former congressman, Gowdy is also a former federal prosecutor. And as such, he knows the importance of due process — and “innocent until proven guilty.”

“Did you hear his last sentence? ‘I challenge President Trump to prove that he did not do something,'” Gowdy lamented. “That’s what politicians do.”

Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report makes it clear that there is no evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia, and there was insufficient evidence to prove that the president obstructed the collusion investigation. But to Swalwell, that doesn’t seem to matter.

Indeed, the California representative appears to be basing his presidential campaign on not much more than the Trump-Russia collusion narrative. And since he’s assumed that Trump is guilty until proven innocent, it doesn’t look like that will be changing any time soon.

America with Swalwell’s burden of proof would be a dangerous place to live.
