Lindsey Graham: ‘I don’t care’ if Trump asked McGahn to fire Mueller

The mainstream media has been sifting through Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report looking to find any little evidence they can of President Donald Trump “obstructing” the investigation. They now think that they finally have got something, but one congressman says otherwise.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), with his customary vehemence, declared he doesn’t “care” whether Trump asked White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mueller.

Another obstruction theory …

Sen. Graham, the current chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday to discuss aspects of the Mueller report, which has been dominating headlines in recent weeks.

In that report, the special counsel cleared the president of colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Mueller, however, did leave open the question of whether Trump obstructed justice, which has given the left something to which to pin their hopes of impeachment.

Attorney General William Barr, after initially providing a summary of Mueller’s findings, released a lightly redacted version of the report — including reasons for each redaction — earlier this month.

Now, the left thinks they have found evidence of obstruction in a part of the report which says that President Trump ordered former White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mueller in 2017. It goes on to claim that McGahn refused, saying that “he would resign rather than trigger what he regarded as a potential Saturday Night Massacre.”

Graham: No obstruction

When host, Margaret Brennan, asked Graham about whether this constitutes obstruction, the senator exploded.

“I don’t care what they talked about,” he said. “He didn’t do anything. The point is the president did not impede Mueller from doing his investigation.”

“I don’t care what happened between him and Don McGahn,” added Graham. “Here’s what I care about: Was Mueller allowed to do his job? And the answer is yes.”

“Name one thing that they did to stop Mueller from doing his job, and if you can’t then there’s no obstruction,” he said.

Trump denies allegation

Trump has denied asking Mcgahn to fire Mueller.

“As has been incorrectly reported by the Fake News Media, I never told then-White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire Robert Mueller, even though I had the legal right to do so,” Trump tweeted. “If I wanted to fire Mueller, I didn’t need McGahn to do it, I could have done it myself.”

Regardless of whether it happened or not — Graham is right: Mueller was allowed to take his time and finish his investigation on his own terms. There’s no obstruction there.
