Israeli soliders urge Fox News reporter Trey Yingst to retreat during live report

The job of a foreign news correspondent can be a difficult and dangerous one at times, particularly when providing live news reports from the front lines of a conflict or combat zone.

Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst found that out firsthand Friday when he was interrupted during a live report as local military authorities told him to move because he was in a dangerous and potentially deadly location.

Live report from Israel/Gaza border

AdWeek reported that Yingst had been delivering a live report about an ongoing protest/riot from a position near the border between Israel and Gaza.

Prior to the completion of his live report, Yingst acknowledged that he had just been asked to vacate his position and retreat to safer ground by Israeli Defense Force soldiers who were concerned that the reporter and his crew were in range of Palestinian grenades and gunfire.

Yingst quickly wrapped up his report and tossed things back to the Fox News hosts in the studio back home.

Explosive news report

Yingst shared just a portion of his report from the embattled border on Twitter, highlighting the nearby danger of Palestinian protestors and rioters throwing rocks, grenades and improvised explosive devices across the border toward the Israeli soldiers on the other side.

The video Yingst shared, however, stopped short of the moment when he was instructed by soldiers to leave his position for the safety of himself and his crew.

Forced to seek safer location

The official Twitter account of the IDF shared a longer video clip of Yingst’s report, however, which did include the moment near the end when he announced on-air that his safety was potentially in danger.

The IDF tweeted, “During a live report, our soldiers had to ask @FoxNews reporter @TreyYingst to leave the location he was reporting from due to rioters throwing grenades & IEDs.”

Quick glimpse of daily dangers

Thankfully, Yingst and his crew were safe and did not find themselves the target of any direct fire from the thrown explosives or sporadic gunfire from Palestinians taking potshots at the Israeli troops facing off against them.

As nerve-wracking as the experience may have been for Yingst and his crew, they certainly deserve everybody’s gratitude for providing an up-close glimpse of just how dangerous the Israeli/Gaza border region can be, and it is worth remembering — as noted by the IDF tweet — that regular Israeli citizens live and work in that region under threat of violence on a near daily basis.

AdWeek noted that Yingst has been Fox News’ Jerusalem-based foreign correspondent since joining the network in August 2018. Prior to that, he had been the White House correspondent for the conservative-leaning One America News Network.
