Americans whose loved ones were killed by illegal immigrants, also known as “angel families,” stormed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office on Wednesday, seeking answers regarding Democrat’s failed border control policies.
Holding up photos of their dead children and relatives — some of whom were killed in Pelosi’s own district — surviving family members asked why the House majority leader cares more about illegal aliens than American citizens.
A righteous crusade
The rally began on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, where angel families joined border control advocates and Republican lawmakers to call for stricter immigration enforcement, including a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Women for Trump, America First Policies, and Families of Opioid Victims were also on hand to demand immigration reform.
“I think it’s hugely important as we’re in the process of trying to do everything we can to secure our border that people are reminded of the human cost, and of the toll, and of the tragedy when we don’t secure our border,” Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (WY) declared in a press conference accompanying the rally. “Nobody knows that cost more than these angel families who are here with us today.”
Congressional Democrats are the only true roadblock to lasting and effective border control legislation. Led by Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY), Democrats would rather risk an endless government shutdown than fund even a portion of the GOP’s proposed wall.
During previous White House administrations, many of these same Democrats, including Pelosi, publicly endorsed the construction of a wall. Although the House speaker currently refers to the proposed barrier as “an immorality,” in 2013, she supported a bill that would have included 700 miles of border fencing.
Testimonials
On a mission to determine why Pelosi would allow partisanship to influence her opinion on immigration and endanger the lives of millions of Americans, angel families and their supporters crowded into the House speaker’s office on Wednesday seeking answers. The crowd was too large for every protester to fit into the House Democrat’s expansive offices.
Brandishing a photograph of his son, who was killed by an illegal alien in Pelosi’s own 12th district in California, angel dad Don Rosenberg accused Democrats of failing to act. “She, in her 31 years in office, has done absolutely nothing to stop illegal immigration,” he said, referring to Pelosi.
Seizing on Pelosi’s characterization of the wall as “an immorality,” one protester asked if a rod shoved through a 17-year-old’s head was by an illegal alien was “immoral,” or if it mattered to her at all. Others chanted, “Build that wall,” a popular refrain among conservatives who are frustrated with the endless flow of illegal aliens moving across the southern border.
“The man that killed my son 12 years ago has not been captured,” said a grieving angel mother. “Nobody’s immune to this. It can happen to anybody and you don’t have to live on the border for it to happen, but we need the wall to prevent it.”
A stark contrast
Unfortunately, Pelosi never appeared before the crowd, and the speaker’s staff never made any efforts to console protestors or schedule a follow-up meeting. In fact, there weren’t any Democratic lawmakers who took the time to listen to those most affected by illegal immigration.
But just a day earlier, a Democratic coalition led by socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) held a pro-immigration rally outside the White House, demanding that President Donald Trump provide permanent residency for people in the U.S. with temporary protected status (TPS).
These competing rallies couldn’t have provided a more accurate illustration of the stark differences between Democratic and Republican immigration policy. While the left is busy stumping for illegal immigrants and demanding their immediate access to American social and economic privileges, Republicans are going to bat for American citizens who have been ignored by the very government that is sworn to protect them.
Pelosi continued that sad tradition on Wednesday by ignoring the angel families who came to Washington seeking answers, putting the people who matter most at the mercy of those who should matter the least.
