Tomi Lahren slams newly-elected Tennessee lawmaker for calling Republicans ‘uneducated’

When Hillary Clinton called half the country “deplorables,” she wasn’t just speaking for herself. A newly elected Tennessee Democrat seems to agree.

Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren slammed soon-to-be state House Rep. London Lamar, who called her entire home state of Tennessee “racist” and said that Republicans in the state are “uneducated.”

Lamar apologized after her comments sparked a backlash, but Lahren came out swinging, saying the apology was insincere.

Tennessee Democrat calls her own state racist

Lamar won an uncontested state House Race last Tuesday to represent the Memphis-area House District 91 and will take office in January. The comments surfaced in a since-deleted Facebook Live video that was uploaded the morning after election night.

“Let’s just call a spade a spade. Tennessee is racist, period. Most of the Tennesseans who voted Republican are uneducated,” she said. “So, they don’t even know they showed up to the polls to vote against their own interest. They literally voted on color lines.”

In response, Lahren argued that Democrats attack Republicans as individuals because they don’t have a good response to their ideas.

“This just goes to show that Democrats are unable to compete with Republican ideas, so they must go after Republicans themselves,” Lahren said on Fox & Friends on Wednesday. “This is really no different than Hillary Clinton calling us a ‘basket of deplorables.'”

Lahren said that Democrats who condemn Republicans with accusations of racism, sexism, and homophobia are really just projecting their own feelings.

Insincere apology

Representative-elect Lamar took the video down after backlash and apologized Monday for the “overgeneralization of white people.” But Lahren wasn’t buying it, noting that Lamar didn’t fully own her mistake and continued to blame Trump’s “racist” rhetoric.

“They’re unable to apologize and truly admit that they just don’t like Republican people,” Lahren said.

Lamar did not take back her claim that Republicans were motivated by “racially charged” rhetoric, saying that her video was a “statistical analysis” of the midterm results “based on my numerous years of political experience.”

“My comments did not intend to make a generalization about every white person who voted Republican,” she said. “The truth about a large number of those who responded with their vote for Republican candidates this election cycle is, they voted in response to the racially charged rhetoric that has come from our President.”

As this case shows, Democrats no longer look down just on those who live outside the coastal elite bubble: they condescend to the very people they are elected to represent. As the red state-blue state divide is being redefined as an urban-rural split that cuts through states, Democrats elected by city dwellers increasingly have no problem with pretending that Republicans in their state don’t even exist.

Lahren is 100 percent right. Democrats just don’t like Republicans, and they’re not even trying to hide their contempt anymore.
