There are no shortages of serious crises these days with President Joe Biden steadily steering America right off the tracks.
However, according to Fox Business, the latest crisis could have a devastating impact on the daily lives of millions of Americans, as Biden’s supply chain crisis has now seemingly affected the retail pharmacy industry, with the outlet reporting that a growing number of vital prescription drugs are hitting the backorder list.
As of this writing, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that at least 111 popular prescription medications are virtually unavailable at pharmacies across the country as they remain back-ordered.
Many of the unavailable drugs include crucial medications for heart issues, various antibiotics, and perhaps the most concerning, a number of cancer drugs.
What’s going on?
Given the gravity of the situation, the FDA is using a special unit within the agency known as the Drug Shortage Staff to continue to monitor the status of the out-of-stock medications. The situation is largely a result of stalled shipping routes from Asia.
“The Drug Shortage Staff within the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) has asked manufacturers to evaluate their entire supply chain, including active pharmaceutical ingredients, finished dose forms and any components that may be impacted in any area of the supply chain due to the COVID-19 outbreak,” an FDA statement read.
Given that the FDA is technically under the umbrella of the Biden administration, it also attempted — to some degree — to spin the cause of the shortage as not totally Biden’s fault, though it was forced to admit that the unavailability of foreign ingredients is a major contributing cause.
“Manufacturers provide FDA most drug shortage information, and the agency works closely with them to prevent or reduce the impact of shortages,” the agency said.
Other factors
Not only is Biden’s supply chain crisis disrupting the pharmaceutical industry, but his labor shortages are also exacerbating the problem, as the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) released the results of a survey that clearly shows pharmacies are unable to find workers.
Of the pharmacy owners included in the survey, some 60% reported issues caused by supply chain problems, and 70% of respondents indicated that a severe staff shortage has also led to dire circumstances.
“Independent pharmacies are the safety nets protecting their communities, and owners are working overtime, docking their own pay and doing everything they can to answer the call,” NCPA CEO B. Douglas Hoey said in a statement.
It’s truly sad that America is being led by an administration that seems to look the other way whenever problems arise, and sadly, the situation is likely to worsen before it begins to improve, which might not be until America elects a Republican president in 2024.
