Maskless Jill Biden reads book to masked elementary students in White House

On Monday, first lady Jill Biden unveiled her White House Christmas decorations for this year.

In doing so, she also violated a pandemic-related restriction that remains in effect for the White House, as Biden went without a mask while greeting and reading a book to a group of elementary school students, The Daily Caller reported.

Maskless storytime

The children were second graders from an elementary school in Maryland, and all of them wore face masks and wristbands indicating a negative COVID-19 test while sitting socially distanced from each other on the floor of the State Dining Room for the event.

Seated in a chair facing the children was the maskless first lady, who read to them a book she had co-written with her granddaughter Natalie, titled, Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops.

Also appearing to entertain the children at the White House were the stars of a PBS program Wild Kratts, Chris and Martin Kratt, who also removed their masks while greeting and speaking with the kids.

The Kratts, however, were later seen wearing their masks, along with all of the children, while seated next to the still-maskless first lady.

Themed decor

The Daily Mail reported that the theme this year of first lady Jill Biden’s White Christmas decorations was “Gifts from the Heart,” with a focus on all of the little things about the holiday season that bring everybody together.

All told, the decorations included 41 Christmas trees, 6,000 feet of ribbon, at least 300 candles, and around 10,000 ornaments, according to the White House.

One feature of the decor was trees decorated with pictures of all of the past presidents and first ladies, including the arch-nemesis of the current residents, the prior occupants, former President and first lady Donald and Melania Trump.

Another major feature was the traditional gingerbread White House, which this year gave a nod to the frontline heroes of the pandemic by way of an entire gingerbread village that included a fire station, gas station, grocery store, police station, post office, school, and a warehouse.

Given that COVID-19 restrictions continue to keep the White House off-limits to the American public, there will be no in-person tours of the Christmas decor this year, but a virtual tour of the Biden White House decorated for the holidays has been made available for those who wish to view it.
