Three months have passed since President Joe Biden completed his disastrous U.S. troop pullout from Afghanistan, with Fox News reporting in October that hundreds of Americans remained trapped in the Taliban-controlled nation.
Biden’s exit left the Taliban in control of large quantities of American weapons and other high-value resources. What’s more, the public advocacy group Judicial Watch says the Biden administration is breaking the law by conveniently hiding just how much U.S. equipment was left behind.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton made the allegation during the course of a Nov. 15 interview with Fox & Friends host Todd Piro.
Piro began by saying that the Biden administration is “concealing details of U.S. funded projects and aid to Afghanistan before the Taliban takeover. And records obtained by Fox News show a watchdog attempted to block that move.”
IG Act violation?
Piro went on to ask Fitton why the Biden administration is seeking to keep such information hidden, given that all of it was once publicly available.
“Well, they say it was for safety concerns, that Afghanistan was collapsing because of Biden’s surrender and they wanted to take material down from the internet,” Fitton explained.
He added: “And it looks like a multi-agency wide effort to start censoring material, and the special inspector general for Afghan reconstruction, which has been tracking spending totally I think $146 billion dollars at least in Afghanistan, he said, ‘What are you doing here?'”
“A, these documents have been up here for as long as 10 years, and B the law requires they be up here, they have to be public [under] the Inspector General Act,” Fitton continued.
“He said, ‘I want someone more senior to tell me that we need to take this material down,’ and they had the controller, a senior State Department official send a letter saying that temporarily we may have to take this stuff down.”
Shady motives?
“But when you look at the material, it’s clear they had strong objections, including legal objections, in terms of being in violation of the law,” Fitton said.
He noted that the apparent coverup was not discovered “until people figured out stuff was being censored on the internet as Americans are trying to figure out just how much equipment and wasted money was spent in Afghanistan.”
Fitton concluded by asserting that “there was no good faith-based reason to take this material down,” leading him to wonder if the action was taken to protect President Biden.
