Former coach Jon Gruden sues the woke NFL and its commissioner

Former Los Angeles Raiders coach Jon Gruden just brought a lawsuit against the woke National Football League (NFL) and its commissioner, Roger Goodell, Fox News reports.  

In the lawsuit, Gruden, as we will see, alleges that the NFL and Goodell “sought to destroy” his career and reputation through “a malicious and orchestrated campaign.”

Background

Gruden recently resigned as the head coach of the Raiders after emails of his were leaked to the public.

In the emails, which were between Gruden and Bruce Allen, the former Washington Football Team General Manager, Gruden used language that many are calling racist and misogynistic. The emails were from a period between 2010 and 2018 before Gruden became the head coach of the Raiders. It remains unclear who leaked them.

But, the emails caused such a firestorm that Gruden decided that the best move for the Raiders was for him to quit, which is what he did.

Since then, he has apologized for the sorts of things that he said in the emails. And, now, he is suing the NFL and Goodell.

The latest

Gruden filed the lawsuit this past week in a Nevada district court, arguing that the NFL and Goodell were out to destroy his career and reputation.

Gruden’s attorney put out a statement, saying:

The complaint alleges that the defendants selectively leaked Gruden’s private correspondence to The Wall Street Journal and New York Times in order to harm Gruden’s reputation and force him out of his job. There is no explanation or justification for why Gruden’s emails were the only ones made public out of the 650,000 emails collected in the NFL’s investigation of the Washington Football Team or for why the emails were held for months before being released in the middle of the Raiders’ season.

Gruden is reported to be seeking damages, including punitive damages, as well as lawyer fees.

The NFL’s response

An NFL spokesperson responded to the lawsuit in a statement on Friday.

“The allegations are entirely meritless, and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims,” the spokesperson said.

It looks as though a massive legal battle is brewing between the NFL and Gruden.
