President Joe Biden has seen his support plummet in recent surveys, with FiveThirtyEight’s latest aggregate of polls giving him an approval rating of just 43.6%.
The dramatic loss of support is likely due in part to the president’s disastrous withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and failure to address the ongoing crisis on America’s southern border, not to mention questions of ethics surrounding his son’s business dealings. As far as at least one House Republican is concerned, it all amounts to an “abuse of power” worthy of impeachment.
“Abuse of power”
Speaking on the House floor Friday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) unveiled her plans to remove the president on claims of abuse of power and treason.
“I have introduced House Res. 57,” Greene declared, according to The Hill. “These are articles of impeachment on President Biden for abuse of power in regards to his willingness to use his position of power to aid his son Hunter Biden in [his] business dealings.”

“What he shouldn’t be doing”
Greene noted Friday that she had previously filed articles of impeachment against the president on separate charges.
“I’ve also introduced another article of impeachment on President Biden, which is [House] Res. 597,” she said. “This has to do with the national security crisis that President Biden has created with regards to the extreme threat at the southern border.”
The Republican lawmaker has also slammed President Biden with House Res. 598, which she said addresses “the failure in Afghanistan.” She added Friday: “And I have introduced House Res. 596, articles of impeachment on President Biden for the COVID eviction moratorium and his willingness to use his position to try to do what he shouldn’t be doing. We have three branches of power.”
“Failing to uphold his oath”
Speaking on the House floor, Greene recalled how “Joe Biden swore an oath, he said ‘I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States and I will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
“He is failing to uphold his oath,” she insisted, according to a transcript from Becker News. “Joe Biden is failing the American people by refusing to uphold the law and the Constitution,” Greene added. “But Afghanistan is where it really hurt. You see, Article III, Section 3, Joe Biden could be guilty of treason.”
Greene is not alone in seeking to impeach the president. The Washington Examiner reported last month that Ohio Rep. Bob Gibbs (R) had made a similar move.
“He’s not capable of being commander in chief, and that’s obvious by the actions since Day One when he took the presidency back in January,” Gibbs told the Examiner. Still, the congressman acknowledged that the prospect of successfully impeaching Joe Biden remains slim as long as Democrats hold a majority in the House of Representatives.
