Former US Embassy staff member accused of sexual misconduct

A former U.S. Embassy staff member has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct over a several year period, leading the FBI to call for additional victims to come forward in the case.

Brian Jeffrey Raymond, 45, pleaded guilty in July on two counts of sexual abuse and one count of transporting obscene material.

The investigation began last year following an incident where an unclothed woman screamed for help from a balcony of his home in Mexico City where he served at the U.S. Embassy.

Worse Than Feared

The FBI investigation discovered videos or pictures of more than 20 women over a 14-year period in Raymond’s possession. Many were reportedly drugged during the encounters.

Raymond served in Mexico City from 2018 to 2020 where many of the incidents took place. It was later discovered Raymond also served in the CIA for a period of time.

“Brian Raymond betrayed the trust granted to him as a U.S. government employee representing the United States abroad by engaging in years of predatory conduct sexually abusing, exploiting, and recording vulnerable women he targeted in the United States and around the world,” Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, said in a statement.

“As demonstrated by Raymond’s prosecution and plea, the Department of Justice and its law enforcement partners will use all of the tools at our disposal to hold accountable those who victimize women,” the statement added.

Searching for More Information

The FBI is now calling for anyone who believes they have been a victim to come forward to provide information regarding Raymond’s case.

“The #FBI continues to seek potential victims and information about serial sexual offender Brian Jeffrey Raymond, who pleaded guilty to sexual abuse,” the FBI said in a statement.

Sentencing is scheduled for February in Washington, D.C.

The scandalous case has caused international concerns the nation. Between serving in the CIA, the U.S. Embassy, and his work in Mexico, the case could lead to global connections with those involved in his sexual crimes.
