Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has taken a stand against President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates on more than on occasion, including during an appearance on Fox News Sunday.
According to Breitbart News DeSantis told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo that his administration plans to fight every federal mandate that they believe is unconstitutional, including some potential orders given to first responders.
“Well, fortunately, we have been able to put — fight back very effectively against mandates imposed by, for example, local governments against police, fire,” he said.
“Maria, these people we have been hailing as heroes, the nurses we have said have been heroes this whole time. They have been working day in and day out. They never — they couldn’t do their job on Zoom. They had to be there. And they did it. And they did it with honor and integrity. Now you have people that want to kick them out of their job over this shot, which is basically a personal decision. And you’re right. What Biden’s doing is unconstitutional. He does not have the authority to do this.”
DeSantis said during his interview that he believed the was drastically overstepping their boundaries saying those first responders needed to take a preemptive medical treatment in order to keep their positions.
While the Biden Administration has cited public health concerns, the other potential issue with cutting such a large number of public workers loose is the lack of educated and willing workers to take their place.
“But what it will do on a practical level, in addition to being unconstitutional, in addition, to be — taking away people’s personal choices, is, it will wreak havoc in the economy, because even if a small percentage of these folks end up losing their jobs or voluntarily walking away, you’re going to have huge disruptions in medical, in logistics, in law enforcement,” DeSantis added.
“And so, in Florida, our policy is very clear. We’re going to have a special session, and we’re going to say nobody should lose their job based off these injections. It’s a choice you can make. But we want to make sure we’re protecting your jobs and your livelihoods.”
This isn’t DeSantis first tiff with the feds in the last week. DeSantis made a statement on Wednesday, saying that he and other state politicians planned to “fortify” the parental rights for Floridians who wished to speak to school board members.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, DeSantis said that parents had a right to interact with school board members and he wouldn’t stand for the administration treating those interested in their children’s education like they are a threat to society.
The governor’s comments were in response to a National School Boards Association letter to President Joe Biden which referenced “domestic terrorism” in connection with the parent groups calling out the school boards.
“As we continue to see the use of fear and intimidation to suppress opposition to the regime, we’re going to find new ways to be able to empower parents’ rights to decide what is best for their children,” DeSantis said. “Parents across the state should know that their freedoms are going to be protected here and that the state of Florida has your back.”
