More than a dozen House Republicans call for impeachment proceedings against Biden over Afghanistan

In a letter dated Monday, more than a dozen House Republicans demanded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) get the ball rolling on impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden, the Daily Caller reported.

The letter comes following the botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan under Biden’s watch, an endeavor that resulted in the deaths of 13 service members and that ultimately failed to bring about the evacuation of all Americans and Afghan allies of U.S. forces who have now been left behind in a country that is under Taliban rule.

“No confidence” in Biden

Spearheaded by Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) — who was joined by 14 other House Republicans — the letter to Pelosi declared that “[t]he American people must have full confidence in their Commander in Chief’s judgment and ability to protect our country and respond decisively to national security threats.”

“We have no confidence in President Joseph R. Biden’s ability to carry out his duties as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces,” the GOP members of Congress continued in their letter.

“His unilateral, reckless decision to retreat from Afghanistan was done against the advice of military and national security experts and it has now put thousands of American military personnel, citizens, and Afghan allies in grave peril,” they added.

Mishandling and misleading

Noting the tragic deaths of U.S. service members in a terror attack outside the Kabul airport, the legislators also accused Biden of refusing “to take responsibility for his actions” and mishandling “the deteriorating situation at every step. In addition, he has deliberately misled the American people in response to questions posed by the media,” they said.

“Free nations around the world look to the United States for leadership, and President Biden has proven definitively, and repeatedly, since this crisis began that he is not capable of effectively executing his duties as our Commander in Chief and leader of the Free World,” the Republicans’ letter continued.

“As members of Congress, we have the duty to oversee the Executive Branch and provide for the common defense of the United States of America,” the GOP lawmakers concluded. “We do not have confidence in President Biden’s ability to continue serving as Commander in Chief. It is after much consideration and with heavy hearts at the current state of our nation that we call upon you, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to begin impeachment proceedings immediately.”

Impeach the whole bunch

Of course, even if the Democrat-controlled Congress somehow impeached and removed President Biden, that just means that Vice President Kamala Harris would assume the presidency — an outcome that is just as unacceptable to many Republicans as Biden remaining in office.

The Daily Mail reports that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), one of the lawmakers who signed on to Tenney’s letter to Pelosi, has announced a plan of her own to try and avoid that situation, primarily consisting of multiple impeachments and removals at the same time.

“The blame starts at the top with Biden and his hand-picked vice president, who bragged that she was right there, making the same bad decisions,” Boebert said during a Tuesday press conference, according to the Daily Mail. “And if not for her own dereliction of duty, she should be impeached for not demanding we invoke the 25th amendment.

“It is time for action,” the Colorado Republican added. “Impeach Biden, impeach Kamala Harris, and throw in the Secretary of State [Antony Blinken], if you could get him back from vacation, take a vote to vacate the chair to get Nancy Pelosi, the heck out of here.”
