President Joe Biden completed his botched U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan this week despite leaving an unknown number of Americans and Afghan allies behind, essentially trapped behind enemy lines with no way out.
Yet, the tragedy doesn’t stop there, as shocking images show that his administration reportedly purposely left behind a large number of highly-trained service dogs, the New York Post reports.
On Monday, author and former U.S. Navy SEAL Jonathan T. Gilliam tweeted out a photo showing over a dozen dogs who were left behind at Kabul’s airport.
In case you missed this earlier, the @DeptofDefense has ordered ALL contract military working dogs to be left behind in #Afghanistan. Who are the contractors and who are the people in the chain of command that did this? How much more does America need to trim this tree?!?! pic.twitter.com/qGmIOpfmv7

What did Snopes say?
Other outlets and organizations picked up on the story, which led to the left-leaning, Biden-friendly fact-checker website Snopes to issue a report claiming that U.S. military dogs had not been abandoned, though there’s still no clear answer.
“The U.S. military did not leave dozens of military working dogs behind as it withdrew troops from Afghanistan,” the website claimed. “The viral pictures show rescue dogs under the care of Kabul Small Animal Rescue.”
“These dogs largely belonged to Afghans, embassy employees, and independent defense contractors who were unable to bring their animals with them as they evacuated,” the report added. Yet, for conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza, that distinction offered little in the way of comfort.
D’Souza tweeted, “The @Snopes fact checkers have an important correction to make. The dogs left behind in Afghanistan weren’t military working dogs. They were US Embassy and Defense Department dogs. I feel so much better!”
Animals left to wander
Meanwhile, conservative writer and former U.S. Navy intelligence officer Jack Posobiec tweeted out haunting footage of dogs wandering around a deserted Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) International later released a statement explaining that some of the dogs had been under the care of Kabul Small Animal Rescue (KSAR) founder Charlotte Maxwell-Jones. “In the end, the dogs and their caretakers were explicitly NOT allowed to board military aircraft, and numerous private charter aircraft were not granted access to the airport either,” the report read.
No matter if the dogs were military or belonged to embassy staffers, it’s an absolute shame that Biden’s military commanders would leave them behind. It’s just another sad development to a situation that will haunt the Biden administration until the end of time.
