Many in the media and President Joe Biden’s supporters often claim that being empathetic toward those suffering misfortune is one of the president’s best qualities, but that may not, in fact, be the case.
According to the new Gold Star mother of a U.S. Marine killed in the Kabul airport terror attack last week, Biden allegedly rolled his eyes and dismissed her anger and grief with a wave of his hand as he walked away, The Daily Wire reported.
The incident was said to have occurred following the dignified transfer ceremony Sunday of the 13 flag-draped caskets of the U.S. service members killed in the suicide bombing attack as Biden purportedly offered his condolences to the grieving Gold Star families.
She feels disrespected
In a Facebook post that excoriated Biden, Shana Chappell, mother of Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, recalled how she confronted the president to his face to let him know what had been taken from her, only for Biden to “interrupt me and give me your own sob story” and make his own losses a central theme.
“You then said you just wanted me to know that you know how I feel and I let you know that you don’t know how I feel and you do not have the right to tell me you know how I feel!” Chappell continued. “(You) then rolled your f—ing eyes in your head like you were annoyed with me and I let you know that the only reason I was talking to you was out of respect for my son and that was the only reason why.”
“I then proceeded to tell you again how you took my son away from me and how I will never get to hug him, kiss him, laugh with him again, etc,” she added. “(You) turned to walk away and I let you know my son’s blood was on your hands and you threw your hand up behind you as you walked away from me like you were saying ‘ok whatever!!!'”
Chappell also asserted her belief that, had former President Donald Trump still been in charge, the deadly situation in Afghanistan never would have occurred, and repeatedly accused Biden of having the blood from the 13 fallen U.S. service members on his hands.
She concluded her message by sharply criticizing the president for repeatedly checking his watch throughout the solemn ceremony and asked, “What the f–k was so important that you had to keep looking at your watch????”
Other families agree
TheBlaze reported that Chappell was not alone among the Gold Star families at the ceremony who were critical of Biden’s behavior, as the sister of Marine Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, Roice, claimed that Biden’s words of condolences were focused more on his own family’s losses than those that had just occurred, and had come across as “scripted and shallow.”
As for Biden’s watch-checking during the ceremony that had been caught on camera and called out by Chappell, that display of disrespect was also called out by a pair of Gold Star fathers at the ceremony.
Darin Hoover, father of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, claimed that Biden had appeared to check his watch after dropping his salute for each of the 13 flag-draped caskets that were lowered out of the military cargo jet.
Mark Schmitz, father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, shared how he couldn’t even look at Biden after the first few instances and said, “Considering especially the time and why we were there, I found it to be the most disrespectful thing I’d ever seen.”
