If you need another reason to not watch the Fox News Channel, here it is.
Breitbart reports that Fox News has banned Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and a leading Republican voice, from making appearances.
It’s true
The outlet that broke this story is Politico.
“Rudy Giuliani has been banned from Fox News for almost three months,” the outlet reported. “As if the sting of that weren’t painful enough, the ‘9/11 mayor’ learned of his banishment … on the eve of Sept. 11.”
Apparently, Giuliani was getting ready to make an appearance on the anniversary of 9/11 when he received a call from “Fox & Friends” host Pete Hegseth, who canceled Giuliani’s appearance. Giuliani, of course, would have been a great guest given his role in America’s response to that tragedy.
Politico reports that in addition to Rudy Giuliani, Fox News also banned his son Andrew Giuliani. The outlet states that Andrew hasn’t been allowed on the network since he announced that he was running for New York City mayor. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), however, Giuliani’s Republican rival, has made frequent appearances.
Why?
This is the key question that we do not have an answer to. Fox has not released a statement on the matter. All that we know is that, according to Politico, “the ban comes from the top.”
Rudy Giuliani made an appearance on Newsmax to discuss the ban. There, he, too, said that he has no idea was he was banned.
“I don’t know,” he replied when asked. “They haven’t given me a reason. They just said I’m banned.”
One can’t help but wonder whether the ban has anything to do with Giuliani’s role in supporting former President Donald Trump’s claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. Fox has tried to distance itself from this idea, and it hasn’t exactly been pro-Trump since that election. Politico notes that “Trump aides have found it difficult to get bookings on Fox News or even coverage of stories that are damaging to their enemies or positive for Trump.”
Background
Whatever the case may be, Politico reports that Giuliani is upset about the situation given his role in getting Fox on Time Warner, in the 1990s, where it was able to be watched in New York City.
We’ll have to see if this all backfires on Fox. The outlet continues to lead the way in terms of cable news viewership, but many Republicans claim to be tuning out specifically because of Fox’s coverage of the 2020 presidential election and Trump. Banning someone like Giuliani certainly isn’t going to help.
