President Joe Biden is pushing ahead with his plan to require all federal employees, contractors, and those working at businesses with over 100 employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19.
At the same time that the White House is cracking down on Americans, however, Biden’s administration is doing little to stop unvaccinated foreigners from entering the country — and his apathy is putting millions at risk. Now, even some of his own officials are expressing concern.
According to the Washington Examiner, that includes Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), who addressed the ongoing pandemic in a Monday speech to the Migration Policy Institute.
“What I didn’t expect”
Speaking at organization’s annual immigration law and policy conference, Mayorkas admitted that he had been surprised by the longevity of the coronavirus crisis.
“What I didn’t expect was the tragic rise of the delta variant,” he told the crowd, according to the Examiner. “I did not expect to be in late September where we are.”
Mayorkas also had some disturbing figures regarding infection rates among migrants. “We are confronted with a population of people that, as a general matter, that have a rate of illness of approximately 20 percent,” he declared, as the Examiner reported.
The secretary went on to acknowledge that such high rates of disease are putting an unsustainable strain on his department’s resources.
“When one is speaking of 7,000 or 7,500 people encountered at the border every day, if one takes a look at that the system, it is not built for that in a COVID environment where isolation is required,” he said.
“We just release them”
Brandon Judd serves as president of the National Border Patrol Council, and he told Fox News earlier this month that little is being done to control infection along America’s southern border.
“I can personally tell you again that when they come in our custody, we don’t test them for COVID,” Judd said during an episode of Fox & Friends. “We don’t vaccinate them,” he added. “We just release them into the United States.”
Judd contrasted the demands that Biden is making on U.S. citizens with the way that his administration is handling undocumented migrants, saying that the president is “requiring United States citizens to get vaccinated. But those people that are entering our country illegally, they don’t have to get vaccinated.”
“They’re able to spread that disease throughout the United States,” Judd complained. “Again, the hypocrisy knows no end with this administration.”
