Biden vows to get GOP governors ‘out of the way’ of his COVID mandates

President Joe Biden this week announced his latest vaccine mandate with a speech vilifying unvaccinated Americans and certain Republican officials.

In his remarks on Thursday, he vowed to get Republican governors “out of the way” as he pursues a mandate requiring vaccinations or weekly COVID-19 tests for employees of private companies with more than 100 workers.

Biden claimed his extreme order was the appropriate response to a “pandemic of the unvaccinated,” going on to establish a clear denunciation of the millions of Americans who have declined to get the COVID-19 vaccine. For his part, author and Republican U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance denounced the president’s deeply divisive rhetoric.

He called Biden a “disgusting, vile man” who spoke about many of his fellow Americans as if they were “vermin.”

In his own words, the president made it clear that he holds unvaccinated Americans responsible for the recent uptick in COVID-19 infections.

“Our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us,” he declared, adding that “this is not about freedom or personal choice.”

He went on to threaten fierce opposition to Republican governors who have stood up to the increasingly draconian federal regulations related to COVID-19.

“Fight them to the gates of hell”

“If they’ll not help, if these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my power as president to get them out of the way,” Biden said.

His remarks sent a shockwave across the political spectrum, sparking a response from various Republican officials who vowed to take legal action. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reacted on Friday, vowing to shield employees in his state from the latest decree and calling out the president for his dismissive words.

“We don’t live with a one-person rule in this country,” DeSantis stressed, predicting that Biden’s mandate “will ultimately lose in court.”

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster was more direct, promising that “we will fight them to the gates of hell to protect the liberty and livelihood of every South Carolinian.”

Notably, the president dismissed the criticism on Friday, claiming that he was “disappointed” in Republicans for being “cavalier” by not giving in to his demands.
