President Joe Biden has been the focus of intense criticism over his botched handling of the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.
In response, one GOP senator declared this weekend that it’s time for Biden to be impeached, and he isn’t the only one who feels that way.
According to Mediaite, South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham (R) said during a Sunday interview with CBS’ Face The Nation that he supports efforts to remove the president.
“Dereliction of duty”
As justification, Graham pointed to how Biden had “abandoned thousands of Afghans who fought with us and he’s going to abandon some American citizens because he capitulated to the Taliban.”
He also took issue with how Biden had responded to a suicide bombing by members of the terror group ISIS-K last week that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. military personnel.
“These drone attacks will not degrade ISIS,” he said of a U.S.-led strike last week that the Biden administration claims to have taken out two “high profile” ISIS-K figures, Fox News reported.
Increased terror chances
“The number of ISIS fighters have doubled,” Graham complained, adding, “The chance of another 9/11 just went through the roof.”
The South Carolina senator went on to insist that he has “never been more worried about an attack on our homeland than I am right now.”
“And we did not end this war,” Graham continued. “President Biden said that he wanted to take Afghanistan off the plate for future presidents. He’s done the exact opposite.” When it came to the question of whether or not the president should face impeachment, Graham was unequivocal.
“Yeah, I think it’s dereliction of duty to leave hundreds of Americans behind enemy lines, turn them into hostages, to abandon thousands of Afghans who fought honorably along our side, to create conditions for another 9/11 that are now through the roof,” he said.
He’s not the only one
By calling for Biden’s impeachment, Graham has joined other GOP House members who have made similar calls in the wake of the president’s Afghanistan fiasco.
The Hill reported last week that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) has already introduced articles of impeachment accusing Biden of dereliction of duty and endangering the security of the United States.
