According to the Washington Times, former President Donald Trump declared on Monday that he has still “never admitted defeat” in the 2020 presidential election.
“I never used the word concede,” Trump said during an interview on Real America’s Voice with David Brody. “I have not conceded.”
Trump explains
Trump went on to explain why he has not conceded the 2020 presidential election. He pointed to things such as election irregularities and possible voter fraud, claims that he says will be further substantiated by the election audit that is currently being conducted of Maricopa County, Arizona.
During the interview, Trump pointed out that he is far from the only politician to question the results of his own election.
He pointed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams as recent examples. Both, like Trump, have suggested that they lost their elections because they were stolen from them. They, however, have not suffered the same backlash that Trump has suffered.
Trump further pointed out that “there is a tremendous percentage [of people] that thinks the election was rigged and stolen.”
He’s right
This week, Monmouth released a poll indicating that there indeed is a substantial percentage of people who believe that the election was stolen from Trump.
During a period from June 9th to June 14th, some 810 adults – 24 percent Republicans, 44 percent independents, and 32 percent Democrats – were asked whether they believe that President Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election “fair and square.”
The pollster found that only 61 percent of participants believe that this is the case. This means that roughly one out of every three individuals believe that President Biden won the election as the result of voter fraud.
All things considered, that really is a “tremendous percentage,” although it is unclear if Trump was actually referring to the Monmouth poll when he said that on Monday. And, some have suggested that this percentage could be even higher, pointing out that Monmouth isn’t exactly the most reliable pollster.
Looking ahead
During the interview, Trump predicted that more states will follow the lead of Maricopa County, Arizona, by conducting similar audits of 2020 presidential. This remains to be seen, although there have certainly been calls for such audits outside of Arizona.
Trump maintains that if these audits are conducted then more and more evidence will crop up showing that his claims about the 2020 presidential election are not without merit.
