Trump ditches ‘Desk’ blog, aides urge supporters to ‘stay tuned’

After being summarily banned from most social media platforms earlier this year, former President Donald Trump soon found another way to speak directly to his supporters: by posting near-daily statements to a blog on his campaign website. But it seems the era of Trump as a blogger has come to an abrupt end.

Entitled “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” the former president’s blog was shut down permanently this week, CNBC reports, as Trump’s team tees up what they’re calling “broader efforts” to connect with supporters online.

The webpage was taken offline Wednesday, according to CNBC, though supporters can still read Trump’s statements on his website’s “News” page.

More info to come soon

In an email to CNBC, a senior adviser to the former president, Jason Miller, confirmed that Trump’s blog “will not be returning.”

“It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on,” Miller explained.

Though he declined to offer any further details on what was being worked on, Miller did note that he’s “hoping to have more information on the broader efforts soon.”

“I do not have a precise awareness of timing,” he admitted.

“Stay tuned!”

Still, Miller says Trump is looking to make a return to social media at some point in the near future, as Newsmax notes. Asked by Amy Tarkanian, a political strategist who previously served as chair of the Nevada Republican Party, if Trump shutting down his blog “is a precursor to [the former president] joining another social media platform,” Miller was enthusiastic in his response.

According to Newsmax, Miller first promised back in March that Trump would “completely redefine the game” with a new social media platform of his own.

“I do think that we’re going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here with his own platform — and this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media,” Miller said at the time.

CNBC noted that Trump’s “Desk” blog “seemed ill-equipped” to compete with platforms like Facebook and Twitter, but a new site like Miller has discussed might not suffer the same shortcomings. Only time will tell, though, whether the former president actually takes the leap and launches a new social media platform of his own.
