Pres. Biden gives McCain the nod

It appears that Cindy McCain, the wife of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), is finally about to get her reward from President Joe Biden for endorsing him over former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Breitbart reports that Biden has nominated McCain to a post in his administration that is on par with an ambassadorship.

The announcement

President Biden, on Wednesday, announced 17 individuals that he has nominated for various assignments having to do with diplomacy and the arts. McCain was one of those 17 nominees.

Biden specifically has nominated McCain to be the U.S. representative to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture.

As such, McCain will look to address global food insecurity, and she will get to do so from Rome. In addition, McCain will serve as a special envoy to the United Nations.

To clarify, McCain, thus far, has only been nominated by Biden. She still has to be confirmed for the position by the U.S. Senate. But, there is little reason to believe that she will not be confirmed, even with the Senate being as divided as it currently is.

McCain released a statement on Wednesday expressing her gratitude toward Biden for naming her to the post.

“I am honored to be selected by President Biden to serve as Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture,” McCain said. “The communities this group serves need our support and focus, and I look forward to meeting the challenges this role presents.”

Background

This nomination will make McCain one of the very few Republicans who are members of the Biden administration. Some are looking at this as a show of bipartisanship from the Biden administration.

McCain, just like her late husband, does refer to herself as a Republican. She, though, endorsed Biden over Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

This resulted in McCain being targeted by Trump and other Republicans. In addition, McCain was censured by the Arizona GOP, though, she referred to this censure as a “badge of honor.”

Currently, McCain works as an Arizona businesswoman. She is the chair and the director of the Hensley Beverage Company based in Phoenix. The company specializes in the distribution of beer, wine, spirits, and nonalcoholic drinks.
