House Republicans call on Biden to replace Harris as top person on immigration crisis

In March, President Joe Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with addressing the alarming influx of migrants crossing the southern U.S. border, with a special focus on the surge originating from Central American countries.

However, her performance in tackling the issue, so far, has left many of her political critics feeling less than impressed, and according to Just The News, some, including a group of 56 House GOP lawmakers, are calling for Biden to place someone else in charge.

A whopping 56 Republican members of Congress sent a letter to Biden last week in which they laid out their case for why they believe Harris should not be the person in charge of one of the greatest threats the United States currently faces.

“Despite being in the midst of a border crisis this country has not seen in two decades, Vice President Harris has not yet shown adequate interest in observing this crisis first-hand,” the lawmakers wrote, in reference to her seeming unwillingness to visit the southern U.S. border for a firsthand look at the crisis.

“Even you must be discouraged with her inaction”

“In the 85 days since the Vice President has been tasked with solving this crisis, she has yet to visit the border and meet with Border Patrol agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, and local law enforcement officials,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.

“While you have publicly defended the Vice President, even you must be discouraged with her inaction,” they added.

In particular, they took issue with Harris’ focus on the “root causes” of migration, as the Biden administration has dedicated their focus on the “northern triangle” Central American countries of origin, while apparently ignoring the alarming fact that migrants are arriving “from countries all over the world, including Russia, Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti.”

They also accused Harris of not considering “the role of policy decisions made in the first four months of your administration play in enticing migrants to illegally cross our southern border.”

“We have all made mistakes in hiring and understand when someone else needs to be assigned to a task,” the congressmen concluded, adding, “We sincerely urge you find [sic] someone else in your administration to assist you in getting a handle on this border crisis.”

The border crisis is “no laughing matter”

Harris made headlines in March when she laughed after being asked by a reporter if she had plans to visit the southern U.S. border, which many believe is an essential step in beginning the process of mitigating the unprecedented surge of illegal immigrants into the United States.

According to a Fox News report at the time, her bizarre reaction elicited sharp criticism from Republicans, including from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). The Texas Republican insisted that the border crisis was “no laughing matter” and invited Harris to accompany him to a detention facility — an invitation which she obviously wasn’t interested in.

The fact that we have a leader who’s not willing to face the reality — in person — of the ongoing immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border is nothing less than terrifying, and while it’s unlikely Biden will oblige the request to fire Harris, it’s important for GOP lawmakers to continue to ramp up the pressure.
