A number of prominent conservatives have spoken out in recent months about the perceived prevalence of so-called “woke” ideology within the U.S. military by which progressive beliefs are instilled into America’s servicemembers.
For their part, two military veterans currently serving as Republican lawmakers in D.C. have teamed up to encourage whistleblowers to come forward and provide insight into potentially problematic programs.
“You can submit your story”
According to the Washington Examiner, U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), a former Navy SEAL, announced the proposal in a series of tweets on Friday.
“Enough is enough,” he wrote. “We won’t let our military fall to woke ideology. We have just launched a whistleblower webpage where you can submit your story.”
He went on to confirm that each complaint would be handled securely and shared with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), who helped launch the initiative.
“With written permission we will anonymously publish egregious complaints on social media and tell the country what’s happening in our military,” Crenshaw added.
He concluded with a dire assessment of the nation’s military preparedness, writing: “For too long, progressive Pentagon staffers have been calling the shots for our warfighters, and spineless military commanders have let it happen. Now we are going to expose you.”
“I want to hear from you”
The Texas Republican also included a link to the “Whistleblower Form” located on his congressional website, which individuals can use to confidentially report perceived misbehavior. As the form advises, anyone making a complaint should use “personal resources” instead of “work equipment” and no classified materials are to be submitted.
Although there are laws on the books prohibiting retaliation against whistleblowers, the website warned that there are still “serious risks” involved in exposing potential wrongdoing and recommended that anyone considering it should first contact an attorney with relevant experience.
One major impetus for the move by Crenshaw and Cotton was said to be the ouster of Space Force Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier from a command position after he released a book and spoke out during an interview about his concerns that Marxist ideology had become interwoven into military training courses.
Cotton also weighed in with a tweet on Thursday, noting that he had met with Lohmeier to discuss the underlying issue.
“I was concerned by what I heard and will be pressing senior military leaders for answers,” he explained. “If you’re a member of the military and being taught that the military is a systematically racist institution, that America is a fundamentally racist country, or that any race of Americans is inherently an ‘oppressor’ or ‘victim,’ I want to hear from you.”
