Trump issues statement slamming Pence, Cheney and McConnell over 2020 election

Former President Donald Trump has never been shy about expressing his feelings for those who he believes have betrayed him, and that was on full display Wednesday as he trashed a trio of top Republicans.

According to the Washington Examiner, the former president held nothing back in a new statement, trashing “gutless and clueless MINORITY” Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), “warmonger” Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), and former Vice President Mike Pence, who he blames for not doing enough to challenge the 2020 election results.

What did he say?

The sweeping criticism of some of the most high-profile Republicans came as the former president seemingly wanted to remind his followers that the 2020 election was stolen from him, a message he’s repeatedly pushed since election night in November 2020.

“Had Mike Pence referred the information on six states (only need two) back to State Legislatures, and had gutless and clueless MINORITY Leader Mitch McConnell (he blew two seats in Georgia that should have never been lost) fought to expose all of the corruption that was presented at the time, with more found since, we would have had a far different Presidential result,” Trump wrote. “And our Country would not be turning into a socialist nightmare! Never give up!”

Pence has insisted that he lacked the power to do what the former president wanted him to do as far as challenging the certified Electoral College vote results from a handful of swing states which went in President Joe Biden’s favor.

According to the Daily Mail, the former vice president made clear at a speech in South Carolina recently that it was an honor to serve as Trump’s vice president.

As far as his attack line against McConnell, it’s similar to statements that Trump has made in the past about the Senate GOP leader. The two men have reportedly not spoken for some time as a result of their very public falling out.

Cheney’s in trouble

Cheney, who continues to fight what is obviously a losing battle to distance the Republican Party from Trump’s influence, has exchanged barbs with the former president for several weeks now.

Trump’s charged remarks against the Wyoming lawmaker come as top House Republican leaders have suggested that Cheney’s days as the number three ranked Republican House leader are nearing an end, partly due to her resistance to embrace Trump as the party heads into the 2022 midterms.

“Warmonger Liz Cheney, who has virtually no support left in the Great State of Wyoming, continues to unknowingly and foolishly say that there was no Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election when in fact, the evidence, including no Legislative approvals as demanded by the U.S. Constitution, shows the exact opposite,” Trump wrote in the Wednesday statement.

The written attack echoes similar statements made by the 45th president in recent weeks as the Wyoming Republican continues to lose support from both congressional Republicans and constituents from her home state.

Trump, who has already notched several victories for candidates he’s back since leaving office, is undoubtedly the Republican kingmaker heading into next year’s election. Why Cheney refuses to get on board with that is anyone’s guess, but it’ll likely result in a devastating blow to her future in Republican politics.
