The result of a new Fox News poll is bad news for President Joe Biden.
Fox’s poll suggests that some voters who cast a ballot for Biden may be experiencing buyer’s remorse, as noted by the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent Byron York.
The poll, conducted on May 22-25 with a margin of error plus or minus three percentage points, asked 1,003 registered voters whether they are satisfied with how they voted in the 2020 presidential election or if they wish they had voted differently.
A key number
Among Biden voters, 91% of said that they are satisfied with their vote, including 89% of self-identified “Democrats,” and 85% of self-identified “liberals.” These may sound like high percentages, and they are. But there’s a catch.
As the York pointed out, those percentages are lower than those for both former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump at the same time during their presidencies.
Ninety-three percent of Obama’s voters and 97% of Trump’s voters were satisfied with their votes in April of 2009 and April of 2017, respectively.
This “voter satisfaction” percentage is a particularly interesting for Biden’s presidency because so many of the people who voted for Biden did so primarily because they wanted Trump to lose, not because they wanted Biden to win.
According to a Monmouth University post-election poll, 73% of participants said they were happy Trump lost as opposed to 57% who said they were happy that Biden won.
Too liberal?
The danger for voters who choose a candidate this way is that the president they end up with, in this case Biden, could turn out to be far worse than expected. And there are signs that many feel this way, particularly given that Biden sold himself as a centrist candidate, something his presidency has thus far failed to embody.
Fox’s poll, for example, asked participants whether Biden’s policies are too liberal, too conservative, or just right.
Forty-six percent answered too liberal, which is 10 percentage points higher than it was in December of 2020. Ten percent now say that Biden’s policies are too conservative, which is down 5 percentage points from December.
The question is whether these numbers will continue in this direction throughout Biden’s presidency, and, if they do, how much buyer’s remorse is there going to be by 2024? We’re likely to find out, as the Biden administration hasn’t shown any signs of backing off its far-left approach.
