For the first few months since leaving office this past January former Vice President Mike Pence maintained a relatively low profile.
A scheduled appearance next month at the Lincoln-Reagan awards dinner in Manchester, New Hampshire, however, is drawing speculation regarding Pence’s plans for a possible 2024 presidential run, according to Fox News.
Held by the Hillsborough County GOP, Pence’s presence at the event could have significant implications given that New Hampshire is the first state to hold a primary vote.
Pence touts GOP’s “positive agenda”
News of Pence’s scheduled appearance comes on the heels of a speech he gave last month in South Carolina — another important primary state.
“We’ve got to guard our values … by offering a positive agenda to the American people, grounded in our highest ideals,” told the audience at the Palmetto Family Council gala. “Over the coming months, I’ll have more to say about all of that.”
The former vice president also spoke at the the Texas Victory Committee Donor Appreciation Conference in Austin, Texas, on Friday organized by long-time Republican strategist Karl Rove.
The conference featured other prominent Republicans as well, such as Sen. Tim Scott (SC), Sen. Marco Rubio (FL), Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Trump’s 2024 plans
The pro-life group Susan B. Anthony also included Pence in its “all-star lineup of speakers” for an event this week in Palm Beach, Florida.
Besides Pence and other high-profile Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), the pro-life summit will also have an appearance from former President Donald Trump, who many speculate has 2024 ambitions of his own.
Trump told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo in April that he is “100% thinking about running again” and conveyed a similar message last week to Daily Wire commentator Candace Owens.
The former president told Owens that “it’s very early” but said he thinks “people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”
“You know, for campaign finance reasons, you really can’t do it too early because it becomes a whole different thing,” Trump said. “Otherwise I think I’d give you an answer that you’d be very happy with. So we’re looking at that very, very seriously. All I’d say is stay tuned.”
