Even as many in the GOP have made it clear that they believe U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) should be removed from her leadership position on Capitol Hill, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been relatively reserved.
According to reports, however, he was caught on a hot microphone during a recent Fox News Channel appearance expressing his true feelings about Cheney, and he did not mince words. Cheney, who currently serves as the House GOP conference chair, has faced mounting criticism from within her own party for engaging in a political battle with former President Donald Trump.
“She’s got real problems”
During his on-air appearance, McCarthy addressed the issue — but it was what he said when the cameras were not rolling that has since attracted the most attention.

“I think she’s got real problems,” he said during an off-camera conversation with Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy.
Although Doocy’s response was not available in the audio clip, McCarthy was clear in his disappointment in Cheney’s behavior as a party leader.
“I’ve had it with — I’ve had it with her,” the California Republican said, adding that he had “lost confidence” in his colleague and signaled that an upcoming vote to strip her of her leadership position is likely on the horizon.
“Making things about her”
“Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place,” he added.
Others in his party have been more forthright in their public statements, including U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX), who told Breitbart that he expects Cheney will be ousted from her post at some point next week.
“The temperature is rising on this,” he said. “People are fed up with the lack of leadership on her part and her unwillingness to put her issues behind her.”
Although she initially came under fire for voting to impeach Trump earlier this year, Gooden said other issues have taken priority since then, adding: “At this point, people are upset that she’s openly contradicting the other leaders of the House and making things about her when we should be making everything about taking back the majority.”
Specifically, he cited her public disagreement with McCarthy over the scope of a commission to study the riot on Capitol Hill in January as “the straw on the camel’s back.”
