Fox Corp purchases sports website Outkick: ‘A content powerhouse’

Fox Corporation has purchased Outkick, the conservative-friendly sports website run by provocative commentator Clay Travis.

Travis shared his elation with the deal in an interview with Fox News personality Brian Kilmeade, who officially welcomed Travis to the Fox “family,” as Mediaite reported.

Travis was optimistic about Outkick’s potential to keep growing as an “antidote” to the liberal craze that has alienated many sports fans as he looks to build the platform into the new ESPN.

“Sports was an escape”

As Travis put it, sports used to be an “escape,” but has become just another exhausting battleground in America’s culture wars.

“It used to be sports was an escape,” Travis told Kilmeade, according to Mediaite. “And now when you put on your television, sports has become politics by any other name and we are praising the wokest athletes as if they’re incredible heroes. Well, Outkick is an antidote to that.”

Travis lamented that sports are no longer “the great unifier” but agreed with Kilmeade that ESPN going “woke” has come to the advantage of Outkick, which he said he expects to keep expanding with Fox as the “jet fuel.”

“We’re going to be able to win a lot of these battles and return sports to a place that brings us together as opposed to another divisive battle of culture wars,” he said, as Mediaite reported.

“Sports is our framework and our foundation,” Travis added. “But we’re going to cover everything in a perspective that I think your audience is going to love.”

Fox welcomes “content powerhouse”

Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch was similarly optimistic about the new partnership, calling Outkick, which covers sports and pop culture and recently expanded into sports betting, a “content powerhouse.”

“Clay and his team have quickly made Outkick a content powerhouse with a very large, loyal, and engaged audience. We expect the synergies presented across FOX’s existing portfolio of assets will turbocharge this exciting business,” he said, according to The Wrap.

Outkick will reportedly remain its own brand, and Travis will stay on as president. He also has a radio show with 10 million monthly listeners.

“Outkick has grown out of my passion for producing bold, well-informed, and entertaining content about sports, current events, and, more recently, sports wagering,” Travis said in a statement, according to The Wrap. “With the power of Fox behind us, we look forward to maintaining Outkick’s unwavering commitment to that mission,” he added.
