Toward the end of his time in office, former United States Attorney General Bill Barr received heavy criticism from many on the right who were dissatisfied with how he handled matters relating to the 2020 election.
If recent claims made about Barr by former intelligence officer Tony Shaffer are true, then disgruntled conservatives may have one more reason to be resentful.
A former U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, intelligence officer and the author of the 2010 book Operation Dark Heart: Spycraft and Special Ops on the Frontlines of Afghanistan — and The Path to Victory Hardcover, Shaffer spoke with author and podcast host Chase Geiser over the weekend, and claimed that Barr directly told him to stop investigating potential election fraud.
“I believe there was hacking,” Shaffer said regarding voting machine tallies in the 2020 election. “I believe that Dominion is dishonest. I believe that mass ballot fraud occurred.”
“We never heard anything again”
“Look,” he continued, “I investigated this, I found one guy who moved a vehicle of 162 thousand curated ballots from Bethpage, New York to central Pennsylvania.”
“By the way, a guy named Bill Barr called me and said you need to give that investigation up,” Shaffer added. “You need to turn it over to the FBI. Once the FBI got it, we never heard anything again — just saying.”
“When’s the last time you’ve ever had Bill Barr, the attorney general calling a private citizen and saying, ‘Oh, you need to stop.’ Think about that for a second,” he said.
Shaffer continued, “I talked to Ken Cuccinelli, former attorney general of Virginia, about that. I said, ‘Ken…have you ever heard of the attorney general of the United States calling a private citizen and saying, ‘You need to give this up?'”
“Think about that — the attorney general himself,” Shaffer went on to stress. “Not a staff member. Not an FBI agent. The attorney general himself. Think about that.”
Barr suppressed Hunter Biden story
There have been complaints about Barr’s handling of investigations regarding the election and other issues toward the end of Donald Trump’s presidency apart from Shaffer’s claims.
In December, Fox News reported that Barr was aware of multiple investigations into potential wrongdoing involving the Biden family — and Hunter Biden in particular — but worked to keep them secret prior to the election.
A survey commissioned by Media Research Center found that roughly 1 in 6 Biden swing state voters would have voted differently if they had known about the investigations.
