Facebook this week will determine whether or not former President Donald Trump will be permanently banned from its platform, Breitbart reports.
The social media site recently announced that Facebook’s Oversight Board will make the decision on Wednesday morning.
Background
Facebook was one of several social media sites that made the decision to ban Trump’s account following the January 6th Capitol riot. The outlets have justified such decisions on the grounds of safety, claiming that Trump needs to be banned in order to prevent further violence.
“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the time.
Facebook, subsequently, asked its Oversight Board to rule on whether or not this suspension, which the outlet has labeled as an “indefinite” one, ought to stand. Now, this board will make this decision by Wednesday morning.
Facebook claims that its Oversight Board is an independent body that will be able to make an independent ruling. But, reports have indicated that the Facebook Oversight Board is filled with anti-Trump leftists.
Accordingly, one can fairly confidently predict what the Facebook Oversight Board will rule on Wednesday.
The good news . . .
. . . is that Trump isn’t going to be too bothered about Facebook’s ruling. That’s because he appears to have moved on from social media – or, at least, mainstream social media, like Twitter and Facebook.
In a recent statement, Trump called Twitter “really boring” and said that the press releases that he has been doing are a better form of communication, at least for his purposes.
“I’m getting the word out because we are doing releases,” Trump said. “Every time I do a release, it’s all over the place. It is better than Twitter, much more elegant than Twitter.”
On top of that, reports indicate that Trump is currently getting ready to launch his own social media site.
Trump adviser Jason Miller revealed in March that, in the wake of the Twitter and Facebook bans, rather than join a new social media site, Trump is going to create his own. Fox News recently confirmed that Trump is “moving forward” with this plan.
