Pres. Biden restarts America’s visa program, despite millions of Americans still being unemployed

Considering that some 17 million Americans remain jobless, one would think that now is not the time to open America’s labor market to foreign competition. But, that is exactly what President Joe Biden is doing.

Breitbart reports that Biden has restarted visa programs that will make it easier for American companies to outsource jobs.

Background

What Biden actually did was allow one of former President Donald Trump’s executive orders to expire.

This particular executive order is one that Trump signed in June of 2020 and renewed later on in the year. What the order did was temporarily stop the granting of H-1B visas, H-4 visas, H-2B visas, L visas, and J-1 visas.

The purpose of the executive order was to free up jobs for Americans, following the economic struggles that resulted from policies enacted to combat the coronavirus. At the time the order was first signed, some 30 million Americans were out of a job as a result of the pandemic.

For those interested, Breitbart has extensively reported on how these different visa programs take jobs away from Americans.

The latest

Now, it is being reported that Biden has simply let Trump’s executive order expire, meaning that, in effect, he has restarted these visa programs.

“Presidential Proclamation 10052, which temporarily suspended the entry of certain H-1B, H-2B, J (for certain categories within the Exchange Visitor Program), and L nonimmigrants, expired on March 31, 2021,” Biden announced in a statement on Thursday.

The statement continues:

Visa applicants who have not yet been interviewed or scheduled for an interview will have their applications prioritized and processed in accordance with existing phased resumption of visa services guidance. Visa applicants who were previously refused visas due to the restrictions of Presidential Proclamation 10052 may reapply by submitting a new application including a new fee.

“Now is not the time”

Biden made this decision as some 17 million Americans remain jobless and 6.1 million Americans remain underemployed.

Biden also proceeded to let Trump’s executive order expire despite the urging of several prominent Republicans, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO). In a letter to Biden, Hawley said, “with millions of struggling Americans out of work — and millions more desperate to make ends meet — now is not the time to open the floodgates to thousands of foreign workers competing with American workers for scarce jobs and resources.”

Americans may have been first for Trump, but, with Biden, that’s clearly not the case.
