According to Breitbart, the Biden administration has just announced that it has reversed another Trump-era immigration policy.
This particular policy has to do with the issuance of fines to illegal immigrants.
Background
In 2018, then-President Donald Trump got the federal government to start issuing fines to illegal immigrants who refuse to leave the United States.
The max fine was $500 per day, and reports indicate that some illegal aliens ended up with almost $500,000 worth of fines.
This particular policy was not one of Trump’s original immigration policies. Rather, the policy had been on the books for decades.
Trump’s contribution was that he finally was able to get the federal government to start actually enforcing the policy. This enforcement though is now, once again, coming to an end.
In fact, the enforcement of this policy has already come to an end. It turns out that this is actually one of the policies that President Joe Biden reversed shortly after entering the White House. Americans, however, were not made aware of this fact until just this week.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas released a statement informing Americans about the three-month-old decision on Friday.
According to Mayorkas, the Biden administration has decided to stop fining illegal immigrants because such fines are ineffective.
“There is no indication that these penalties promoted compliance with noncitizens’ departure obligations,” Mayorkas said. “We can enforce our immigration laws without resorting to ineffective and unnecessary punitive measures.”
Mayorkas also revealed that, not only is the Biden administration not issuing fines to illegal immigrants who refuse to leave the country, but the administration is also canceling all debts with the treasury that illegal immigrants accrued as a result of Trump’s fines.
“After reviewing detailed data regarding the issuance of such fines since 2018, it was clear to Secretary Mayorkas and Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tae Johnson that the fines were not effective and had not meaningfully advanced the interests of the agency,” the statement reads. “ICE intends to work with the Department of Treasury to cancel the existing debts of those who had been fined.”
